Any suggestion please, why B is correct. Chose D on account of parallelism and sentence structure made more sense to me than B..

Option D is incorrect because "which" is referring back to "psychological dependence". It is not the "psychological dependence" that has the symptoms similar to those of narcotic dependence but rather, it is the cocaine itself. The symptoms of cocaine are similar to the symptoms of dependence on narcotics. Hence, why option B is correct!

Wouldn't then be symptoms of cocaine=symptoms of narcotics

Dependence changes the meaning here to be narcotics addiction which should be same as addiction of cocaine

Is it not so?

Can you kindly resolve?

1 is wrong because it does not maintain parallelism, 5 has the same problem. It compares the symptoms of psychological dependence to narcotics dependence itself. 3 is awkwardly worded, as is 4. Thus, 2 is the right option

Meaning: Use of cocaine leads to psychological dependence, the symptoms of which(symptoms of use of cocaine) are similar to dependence on Narcotics. The basic issue in the sentence is the incorrect comparison between "Use of Cocaine" and "Narcotics dependance". The options C to E introduce further errors by changing the comparison between cocaine and narcotics to the incorrect comparison between "psychological dependence" and "narcotics dependence". Hence Option C, D and E can be omitted

how can we say that which is referring to cocaine rather than psychological dependence in B?
based on comparison errors and S-V number error, i had eliminated A,C,D.

I am really confused. A C E are eliminated because of obvious reasons.
When we compare B and D:
B. Heavy and prolonged use of cocaine can lead to psychological dependence, the symptoms of which are similar to those of dependence on narcotics.
D. Heavy and prolonged use of cocaine can lead to psychological dependence, which has the symptoms similar to those of narcotics dependence.
IMO : In both sentences, "which" should refer to psychological dependence. Because only a disease can have symptoms, and cocaine is a chemical.
So what is the difference between B & D and why is B the correct answer?
Can someone explain please?

So we all agree that the answer is either B or D right?

D is wrong because it says “ has THE symptoms”. The word “the” in the sentence changes the meaning to saying that psychological dependence has ALL symptoms that are similar to narcotics dependence.

But this is an extreme statement. Although B is a bit more verbose, it’s clear and logical.
