Hi Linda

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah my grades weren't great. I spent a lot of time my sophmore and junior years on student organization and running my promotions company. After I stopped doing those, my grades shot up to about a 3.7 for the last 3 semesters. I'm a bit skeptical about my experiences because i did a lot of "1 year here, 1 year there" kind of thing. What do you think is a good way to present that?

And...what you think about Sloan? Is it a good program for me to shot for?

Thanks Linda. I appreciate your help!

As I said in my previous post, I think you should try for (two from) Columbia, NW, and Chicago. I think MIT Sloan is a little tougher on GPAs. It's a great fit for you considering your background and goals, but it is a stretch. You should also address your low grades, much as you did in your reply to me, and do point out that you had a 3.7 when you focused on your studies, which you will do in b-school.

Regarding the "here and there" issue, I am not sure I would address it. Some experimentation is normal for college students, although you are on the higher end of the scale. Some of it was a long time ago -- at least six years ago. It is hard to say for sure based on this correspondence. I might suggest you simply describe your first 3 years of college as a period of serendipitous stretching and growth outside the classroom, followed by growth with focus in more recent years, if you address it. I might say focus on recent achievements and decision points, and don't address all the earlier twists and turns. I'm not sure at this point. I would need to know much more about you.

Best,
Linda
