I am having trouble thinking of whom I should ask for LOR
I could possibly ask one of my current supervisors, but I am afraid to tip her off. She has written a recommendation for a local part time program, but in this situation, I would be asking her to write one for a full time program. I would have to be up front with her regarding my intentions. The local program has a part time program, but I would feel dishonest telling her she is feeling out the rec for the part time program and then switching it around.
I want to change careers, and my work experience, is not up to par. I have worked in an insurance company as a claims rep for a number of years ( I am currently 28 now) I wanted to go for my MBA sooner, but I had a number of family issues that have come up over the last 3 and a half years (mom had nervous breakdown, dad got prostate cancer, uncle became paralyzed and then passed away) that caused me to put things on hold for a while. I wanted to move into another positon within the company, but none have come up in the local office, at least none that I would really like. I wanted to go for MBA right out of undergrad, but I was told I would have to get 3-5 years of work experience. Now that has changed If that had been the case then, I would have applied right out of undergrad. It should be obvious from my grades that I could easily get an academic recommendation from any of my former professors.
Should I go back and ask some of my old professors? I have been out of school since April of 2000. My stats are 3.81 QPA, 660 GMAT (Will get above 700 on retake). I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and was really drowsy during the quant section. Plus I didn't hit my usual verbal score (actually got the lowest verbal score I had ever gotten). Regardless, my target school (Pittsburgh/Katz) only has a 624 average so I am above that.
Anyone have any tips?
