2. I'm currently scoring around 81-82 in Verbal, what can I do to improve it to 84-85?

If you find CR assumption questions a bit challenging, the negation technique may help a bit. For RC, becoming familiar with how inference questsions work could also be helpful. Developing/working on a reading methodology that promotes absorption could be useful as well. This doesn't have to take long. I may only do a session or two with someone on RC. All the best with the prep. If you're strong on Quant, consider finding someone who is your opposite who could help you with Verbal/DI in exchange.

Hello Scott,

Thank you for your suggestion!

What kind of practice do you suggest for DI in particular? Since the DI questions are basically also testing the Quant and Verbal skills.
I especially struggle with Tables and Graph, my problem is that I fail to comprehend the correct meaning of the prompt or question or both.

Thanks once again!

Hi SamCodes,

So, the good news is that you are in a pretty nice spot!

That said, you do need to continue to find your holes and fix those to help improve your score. Thus, engaging in topical practice is a great way to do so. Let's use quant as an example.

For example, let’s say you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.

After each problem set, it's crucial to delve into the questions you answered incorrectly.

For instance, if you stumbled on a remainder question, take a moment to reflect. Was it a careless error? Did you fail to apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that eluded you? This analysis is key to your learning process.

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant, verbal, and DI topics.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Good luck!

Hello
Thank you for your suggestion!

No, I haven't still reached the 90 mark in Quant, I scored 88. Yes, I understand that I have few gaps in quant.
DI is actually my weakest section, I almost get around 10 questions wrong. I mainly struggle with Tables and Graph. If I can get some more questions right in this section, I think I can improve my overall score to my target.
How do you suggest I go about practicing DI questions? Since they are also testing the quant and verbal skills?
Like is there a routine that I can follow?

Thanks once again!

Hi SamCodes

- Since you said that you are good in Quant, my question is, are you getting a score of 90 in Quant? If the answer is NO then that's where you should start working from.
- For DI, only limit yourself to Official source as most other sources are not as good as required for the practice purpose. And same is also applicable for Verbal section. Recent experience is that good understanding of section with good command on Quant can help you get to 85 and I have seen it happening with my students getting such scores. To finish DI in time with good accuracy, break it down to the 5 types of questions, understand how many questions are out of your comfort zone and if out of comfort zne questions are ≤ 5 out of 20 then just work on your strong suits in DI
- Yes, Previous years' OG can help with DI and Verbal both
- To improve 3-4 points in Verbal, you must consider taking professional help.

Hello there,

I recently took my GMAT Focus this week. I was able to get a score of 645. However, I need to get a minimum of 715 or more to get into my target school. I need to do this within one month of time. I appreciate any useful advice.
Quick Background about my GMAT prep so far:
1. I have done almost 80% of GMAT OG questions 2024. Also, completed nearly 40% of questions in GMAT OG Verbal Review and GMAT OG DI Review, and almost 80% of questions in Quant Review.
2. Quant is my stronger section. I'm fairly good at CR, but, struggling with RC. However, my weakest section is DI. I take too much time to process the data and still make silly mistakes at times.

So I want to understand:
1. How can I improve my accuracy in DI, while also managing the time efficiently?
2. I'm currently scoring around 81-82 in Verbal, what can I do to improve it to 84-85?
3. Also, what other sources can be used to practice questions for DI other than OG materials? Will it help to refer the previous years OG materials?

Thank you very much for your advice!

I mainly struggle with inference questions in RC and Verbal in general. Do you have any specific recommendations for it?

Hi SamCodes,

Just in case you are not aware, there is an additional Official Practice Question pack you can purchase from mba.com. It sells for $29.99 for 100+ questions, kinda expensive. But those are official questions.

Also, if your weakness is in G&T, I think you can try practicing more questions from the DI forum. Filter questions for the following two groups of sources:
1. GMAT Prep(Classic) & EA - those are official questions.
2. Reputable Prep companies, such as Manhattan, Veritas, Kaplan, etc. I personally feel that G&T questions are less sensitive to non-official question, unlike MSR or TPA. So 3rd-party questions might be acceptable.

Great job on the 645! With a month left, here are a few suggestions:

For DI, try to focus on one chart to understand patterns and time just the data interpretation part, because if you get the chart, you can answer the questions quickly. Also, review mistakes, is there something specific you usually miss?

For Improving RC, try summarising each paragraph in your own words before moving to the next — this keeps you engaged and improves retention. Or try to read the passage twice or read first paragraph and subsequent first sentences, etc. There are many techniques out there, see what works best for you.

All the best with your prep!
