I come from a traditional background but will be going into a post-MBA recruiting path which is not set in stone (read banking, consulting or tech), but rather self-driven. It's not a different industry but somewhat of a significant change in functions. I wanted to get some inputs on how think about how ad-coms would view such an applicant.
Speaking with industry professionals shows I do have a path to such self-driven recruiting change, but I wanted to understand if there's any feedback on how adcoms view such an applicant. How do I think about the level of depth and research I need to portray in-terms of showing conviction? I'm already taking steps by attending seminars etc related to my target function. Feedback from the professionals who I speak with says it's certainly possible but how do I think it through in terms of how I'd express that to an admissions committee which may not be very close to my target industry or function?
To assuage the why MBA concerns, there's definitely long-term value add to an MBA and in the short-term the switch is only made easy or is hastened.
