Hi baaniNitin,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. It takes into account a number of different factors beyond the number of correct and incorrect answers. As such, you shouldn't be wasting your time trying to figure it out. A far more useful gauge would be to review each CAT and determine how many questions you SHOULD have gotten correct, but didn't (due to a silly/little mistake). Those mistakes are the things that you have to fix to score at a higher level.

1) Have you taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections) yet?
2) How have you scored (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

But if you can give me some approx figures then it will be great help. I need it for my practice tests
It's tempting, but you need to avoid looking for this. Anyone can give you some numbers that work for some people, but those same numbers will be completely off the mark for others.

The linear tests that you're doing will, if they're well made, end up helping you. And you should keep using them for practice. Just leave the score estimation bit out of it.

Thank you Rich for your reply .
Yes i tried full length CATs but only with AWA .
1> Quant 30-31 / 37 --- not practiced much for quant yet.. silly mistakes and over-confidence making my score low in this section
2> Verbal - 24-25 /41 --- this is low . i have identified my weak area , RC and not sure how to tackle RC.

my GMAT is in 2 weeks from now.

Hi

I want to know how many mistakes i can do to get 700-720+ score in GMAT ?.There are many tables for overall scores from scaled scores but i am looking for raw score as i am not sure how to calculate scaled score from raw score .

how many mistakes i can do in quant and verbal to achieve with below parameters ?
700+
To achieve 700 + with quant 49-- ?
To achieve 700 + with quant 47-- ?
To achieve 700 + with quant 51-- ?

720+
To achieve 720 + with quant 49-- ?
To achieve 720 + with quant 47-- ?
To achieve 720 + with quant 51-- ?

Regards
baaniNitin

The issue with this question ("how many mistakes can I make?") is that there is no unique answer to it. The reason for that is explained in detail in this post:

Hi baaniNitin,

To start, if you have not been taking FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections), then you haven't been properly preparing for the FULL GMAT. As such, you might want to consider pushing back your Test Date so that you can continue to properly train for the GMAT.

In my prior post, I asked for your Overall Scores, and Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores, for the CATs that you've taken. It doesn't appear that you answered any of those questions though. The number of correct answers is NOT the data that I was interested in. Once you provide that information, we'll have a much better idea of what you should be focused on and how close you actually are to your score goals.

Hi baaniNitin,

I agree with much of what has been. Besides the fact that no one can provide a definitive answer to your question, your main concern really should be how to improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills. If you can improve those skills, then you should be able to hit your goal score without worrying about how many questions to get right and wrong in each section. If you need any further advice, feel free to reach out.

I only made 2 mistakes on the GMAT in the quant section and have a Q50 score

so I'd say it depends on the questions you get and no of experimental questions included
