Hello all,
I am facing difficulty with RC , as my accuracy is also not good and when after solving RC back to back with poor accuracy, what i feel is very demotivating.
I feel this because i am quite good in quants and when i compare with the verbal section especially RC then i feel sad.

I have seen many forums regarding how to get through RC in this gmatclub forum only.

But is there any way how i can improve RC.

I am targeting minimum 740 and for that good marks in Verbal is must.

I appreciate suggestions by all.

Thanks.

Hi sahilvijay,

From this post, it certainly seems that your primary concern is how to improve in RC. However, over the last week, you have spent a LOT of time and energy posting in the Quant forums - so there's some question as to how well you're spending your study time. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

1) I have started studying from 1st July.
2) As of now i studied mostly SC and CR , SC from Manhattan SC and Nirvana SC , and CR from OG 2018 . Just 2-3 days back i have started solving RC as each question has high weightage as compared to others. I am taking coaching in my hometown for GMAT as well ( from jamboree education - as its only available in my city)
3) Till now i have not given any CAT because i feel first i should be prepared to face the questions otherwise i will be stumped in all sections, But i am sure i will score pretty well in Quants as i have cleared IIT ( toughest engineering exam in India) ,

GOALS

4) My minimum goal is 740 score ( Quants i want Q51 and i am putting a lot of efforts for that also. Verbal i aim for atleast V39/40 to get minimum of 740 )
5) Right now i have planned to give my attempt in October end/November after being fully prepared.
6) If i will achieve my desired score i will apply for round 2 this year only. I believe i will get as i think optimistically.
7) India - ISB, IIM A,B,C and abroad MIT Sloan, HEC , INSEAD , And other within top 20 in USA depending upon scholarship.

For info - I am currently doing job and i am on leave , and i am in shipping , Nautical Officer.

waiting for your reply.

Hi sahilvijay,

Based on what you've described, there are two immediate things to consider:

1) Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores; since you've been studying for about 1.5 months, it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet to have 'mastered' all of the concepts (and if you've been studying RC for just 3 days, then you shouldn't be too concerned about that area just yet).

2) If you've been studying consistently for 1.5 months, then you really MUST take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon. That initial diagnostic CAT is important - it helps to define your strengths and weaknesses and gives you a basis for comparison as you continue to study. Most Test Takers are not happy with that first CAT result, but that's not a big deal - the extra months of available study time are there so that you can IMPROVE on this initial practice result.

Until you have that initial CAT result, it will be difficult to offer you the type of specific advice that you need. Your concern right now is with RC, but there might be even bigger issues that you need to work on first (and we won't know what they are until you take that first CAT).

Assuming you have a solid grasp of English, you've just gotta practice RC.

Targeted practice. Taking notes as you read could also help. Just be prepared to put in a lot of effort though. It's very likely that real improvement in RC will take a lot of time and effort.
