I was an athlete on a university sports team and I'm looking to use this story as an answer to one of the essay questions. The essay asks for leadership experience and challenges that I faced. People recommend using sports stories to convey these, but after a period of trying to write the draft, I'm just not sure what I can say.
It was a team-based sport and I did a lot of training with other players. For each game, we tried our best to win games collaboratively and we tried to play our specific position to the best of our abilities. It was really the coach who was the leader on the team.
Any tips on what type of leadership display and challenges I can derive from collegiate team sports experience? I'm certain there were some common instances that I can pull, but a guide in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Team work is a good angle to use.
Other angles include personal leadership; recovery after injury. Training harder individually and as a team to win something.
Be the more experienced player than juniors look up to, or you mentor them, give them encouragement and feedback.

Was there a particular game you had to use your skills. Eg as a defender did you have to rally the backs after oppo scoring several goals. Or did you give up personal glory to ensure a win for the team.

Yes I would also add that to lead on the field is just as important as the coach leading from the sidelines.
