Hi,

I already have an MBA from my country so I was wondering how US schools view applicants with a prior MBA. As information is dispersed, I went ahead and contacted all(except one) T25 schools with the question. Results below. It's worth mentioning that every school has said that you will need to explain the rationale for the 2nd MBA if you apply.

Encouraged to apply despite a prior MBA

    Wharton
    GSB
    Booth
    Kellogg
    SOM
    Fuqua
    Stern
    Jones
    Foster
    Marshall

Conditionally Allowed/Encouraged to apply

Darden - Only if prior MBA was not from US
Anderson - Allowed if "first program was too short or narrowly focused"
Tepper - "Case by Case basis"
Mendoza - Depends, offered to check transcripts
    Jones- "Case by Case basis"

Fairly Negative

Kelley - 2nd MBA applicants rarely gets admitted
Tuck - Typically do not admit but will not be automatically denied

Straight No

    Haas

Did not reply directly and just sent a generic admission requirements mail

    Columbia
    McCombs
    Kenan-Flagler

Yet to reply

    HBS
    Sloan
    Ross
    Johnson

I Forgot to contact

    McDonough

Will update if anything comes up. Let me know if you have any question.

This is amazing .... Great work ... really hard work !!!

Hi QuabityAssurance,

That's strange. This is what Haas has replied me with

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in the FTMBA program at Berkeley Haas. Please note that University policy prohibits awarding of duplicate degrees. If you have an MBA or comparable degree from an institute of higher education, your application will be ineligible for consideration.

This is what Duke sent me
"We encourage anyone who is interested in Fuqua to apply.

However, if an applicant has already obtained an MBA, we closely evaluate the transcript(s) for courses identical to those in our core curriculum."

I know two people who have completed their second MBA from Columbia and HBS, despite having another MBA (or PGDM).

what is your key concern here?

An engineer working in a non biz or economics background is still a very good profile for doing an MBA and applicants with this profile regularly get admits to top b-schools.

If you elaborate on your concerns more, I could help address them.
