Welcome to this wonderful community.
You have quite a good amount of time to score a 600.
Begin your preparation by firstly knowing the ins-and-outs of the GMAT-its pattern, scoring, topics ,books to refer, strategies etc.
Then take a full length test.Download the GMATPREP software from www.mba.com and take one CAT from there to assess where do you stand vis-a-vis your goal.
Then make a study plan for yourself, determine your weak areas and the areas you did well in. And again research on the forums how to specifically go about tackling these areas.
Be very systematic in your approach to the GMAT .You'll see a lot of people coming across the right path they should have followed after they are 2-3 months into the preparation.
Keep participating in the forums here. That's probably the best advice I can give as the members here will help you at every stage of your preparation . :)
