priyanshu14 , for the most part, the two constructions are interchangeable.
I know of four official questions, all below, in which some form of "originate" is involved. (Other official questions may exist. I don't recall them or I haven't seen them.)
Not one of those questions tests the difference between originate in and originate from.
I doubt that GMAC would test that pair. (Some context would help. Do you have a question whose correct answer turns on a distinction between in and from?)
• OFFICIAL QUESTIONS?
I have not seen a single official question that tests the distinction.
The non-underlined portion of this official question, here, contains originates in.
In this question, here, every answer choice contains the construction originating deep within.
• COMMENTS ON USAGE
Some usages are a bit predictable.
If we are talking about a country or a region with borders, we almost always use originate in.
Domesticated potatoes originated in modern-day Peru. Genuine champagne originates only in France.
If we are talking about a tradition or a language, we typically use originate from.
French originated from Latin.
Rap music originated from the African-American game called "playing the dozens" in which banter is exchanged and sophisticated verbal jousting ensues.
Although I urge you not to worry about the distinction because I think it's too subtle and too contested to be tested, if you would like to get a quick overview of this topic that is not at all settled, look on English Language & Usage Stack Exchange, at this page, here. Answers are in large type on the left. Comments are on the right. I am familiar with the work of the people who wrote the answers. Their work is good. Really good.
Hope that helps.
