If a certain dog ate 1/5 of his food on a certain day, what was the ratio of the portion of food eaten to the portion uneaten?

A. 5 : 1
B. 4 : 1
C. 2 : 3
D. 1 : 5
E. 1 : 4

If a dog ate 1/5 of his food on a certain day, then 4/5 was uneaten.

Thus, the ratio of eaten to uneaten food is:

(1/5)/(4/5) = 5/20 = 1/4 = 1 : 4
