8 years old 4 years ago
current age = 8+4 =12

so y years ago age will be 12-y

Hence option E is correct

If Manuela's dog was 8 years old 4 years ago then Manuela's dog is 12 years old now.

Therefore, Manuela's dog is 12 - y years now now. Answer E is correct

Hi All,

This question can be solved rather easily by TESTing VALUES.

We're told that a dog was 8 years old 4 years ago. We're asked how old the dog was Y years ago...

Since we already know the dog's age 4 years ago (the dog was 8), we can just TEST Y=4.... and we're looking for an answer that equals 8.... There's only one answer that matches.

Hi,

For Word Problems like Age and Rates(Time and Work), its better to draw a table. This gives a lot more clarity.

This is an easy question. Maybe table not required. But still it helps to have a clarity.

Table - should be with objects(persons) in the row and time period with columns, like below one, you can look at the diagram below,

Given, 4 years before the age was 8, so now it will be 12. So anything “Y years” before would be 12-Y.

Table method come-in handy, if there are two or more objects and multiple time periods, But this is a simple question.
