Hi Sushant ,

Many people with your kind of profile and work experience have joined one year MBA program in IIMs/ISB and have successfully made their career transition in the private sector. Given your experience, IIM A can be a good option as the batch avg. experience is slightly on the higher side. Having a PSU background will help you during admission as IIMs value diversity in the MBA batch. Being said that, you need to focus on getting a good GMAT score(700+) in the first place.

For more information regarding MBA and career switch from PSU to Private sector check the free resources at https://psutoprivate.com/.
All the best!

Hello Debashismishra

Some great points about your profile

1. Good experience in a large bank
2. Great career progression. Out of turn promotions do highlight your potential
3. I am sure as a branch manager - apart from being responsible for managing and increasing the number of customers you also need to manage the entire operations of the bank.
It takes leadership skills to manage this scale of work.
4. Working in a bank also gives you an eye for detail - there is very less room for error in such roles. Which is a great plus point too. Experience adhering to processes and compliances of banks is great too.

I think at this point you need to think of what kind of roles would you want to get into post MBA. Why do you feel the need for an MBA at this point?

It's important to also map your skills to what you would like to do too.

Having a good GMAT score will help showcase your academic potential and improve your chances to get into the schools of your choice.

Hope this helps.

Shree

hey,

I am a current pgpx student at iim A. definitely you have a good shot for all iims. All you need to show them that you have transferable skills and doing an MBA will help you reach your career goal.

As per me, since you have more than 8 years of work ex, school will be more interested in your work profile as compared to what you did in college days. So don't worry about college part.

Try to maximise your GMAT score and write applications well, you can definitely qualify for interview round.

HiAditiBarche,

Your profile is very good. It has a balance of richness of work experience as well as extra curricular. You definitely have a bright chance at IIM A/B/C.

Round 3 is not the ideal place to apply unless you have some pressing constraints.

Hope it helped.

Request for profile evaluation:

10th Marks: 92% (State Board)
12th Marks: 85% (State Board)
B. Tech (Mechanical engineering): 8.24 DGPA from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (West Bengal)

GMAT 700(V37, Q49), IR 1

Work experience:

7 years of experience in design & engineering in Transformer manufacturing industry. [3 years in Transformers & Rectifiers (I) Ltd. 4 years in Hitachi Energy/ABB]. Primary responsibilities include design and development of mechanical features in Transformers, supporting global factories in design activities/mechanical simulations, working in few of the R&D, design to value projects. Though the profile looks very much technical, highlights of my career have been some interesting projects and few international exposures.

1. With my previous company, I was part of technology transfer collaboration team. Me along with my senior manager visited Fuji Electric factory in Japan for a week to understand & absorb the technology for single phase reactor. Also, successfully designed the similar transformer, which was later commissioned to Power Grid Corporation

2. I was the first recruit to support US factory of dry transformers in my current organization. I was sent to US for 3 months to learn the factory practices, manufacturing limitations, US design standards. Trained and mentored five more mechanical engineers for the same factory, now co leading the team.

3. I had a two week visit to Shanghai for a global team meet on ABB Mechanical Design Platforms. Successfully implemented the same in my ABB’s Vadodara transformer factory design team

Community:

In our college, we run a nonprofit night school, where we teach the local under privileged kids up to 10th standard. I participated in the field work, books and stationary distribution and taught the kids in the school.

Extra curriculars

I was the secretary of Drama club in my college. Successfully organized inter college drama competition. Awarded ‘best director’ in 2012 & 2013 drama festivals. Also, I actively participated organizing cultural events, took part in music club in college

1. If anyone could please evaluate my profile and chances of getting admit in IIM B/C/I or XLRI?

2. Though my GMAT overall score is 700, my IR scaled score is embarrassingly 1. How much weightage do the IIMs give to IR score?

3. Should I retake to improve my IR score? in case in the second attempt I score lower overall and I cancel it, will that have a more negative impact?
