In a large number of developing countries, regular employment is still elusive to a large proportion of young graduates, like that for their earlier generations

A) like that for
B) like
C) as it was for
D) just as
E) as are

A - Like is used to compare nouns; here we are comparing the fact that "regular employment is still elusive to a large proportion of young graduates" which is not a noun but a clause - INCORRECT
B - Incorrect comparison : Regular employment for young graduates is compared to their earlier generations - INCORRECT
C - Correct comparison : Regular employment was as difficult for young graduates as it was for their earlier generations - CORRECT
D - Incorrect comparison - Regular employment for young graduates is compared to their earlier generations - INCORRECT
E - Incorrect comparison and incorrect tense - present tense 'are' incorrect to refer to earlier generations - INCORRECT

I would vote for C

Like Vs as
Like is used for comparing nouns and noun phrases
As is used for comparing actions or verbs

Here " regular employment is still elusive " is an action phrase or a verb phrase and this phrase is being compared and hence " as" is needed

How can two cluases be separated by ",as" ?

Isn't that wrong?

I feel D should be correct because we are comparing employment opportunity for young graduates vs their earlier generations. GMATNinja mikemcgarry sayantanc2k

Hello, dears! I find this task quite difficult for me to complete, but the most logical and correct for me is variant C. Am i right or not?

Option C is right.
Like is used to compare nouns
As is used to compare action phrases.
Also, option C has correctly used the past tense.

Like used to compare noun
Here situation in present is compared with situation in past
"As it was" is best construction

Just as And as are making sentence incomplete.
