A seems alright.
"Discovery" and "documentation" should pair up just as "discovering" and "documenting" should.
All the other choices have this error.

Can someone explain how documenting is parallel to discovery?

Apparently, there are 2 versions of it. Ahh, I knew I recognized this question before:

So the question is: in regards to the first part of the sentence,

In addition to her work on the Miocene hominid fossil record, - should this be followed by:

Mary Leakey contributed
or
Mary Leakey's contribution

The OAs in the above link differs in opinion...

(A) is right
1) "In addition to her work" must be followed by the person and not by person's contribution
2) "Mary Leakey contributed to archaeology through X and through Y" is the right form which is not present in any other answers.
