How do I fix my application profile?
I started this Master's admissions season at the end of last year with hopeful excitement at the prospect of furthering my education and expanding professional resources. Unfortunately, my dreams have been squandered. My profile did not measure up to any of the 7 MBA programs for which I applied and it is clear that my aspirations will have to be put on hold at least, dispensed with at most. Here is an overview of my profile at the time of my applications:
Age: 20
Degree: BA Economics
Nationality: American
GPA: 2.25 - yes, you read that correctly!
GMAT: 710
Work Experience: approx. 36 months
Relevant mentions: Trilingual (Spanish, English, Portuguese); Senior member of a nonprofit; Entrepreneur (a sole proprietorship able to generate a middle-class income for myself); Good writer (--> application essays).
I submitted all of my applications in the late first round or early second round. The MBA programs for which I applied are generally ranked low--to illustrate the point TopMBA 2021 ranked them #43, 61, 68, 111, 201+, 201+, 201+--suffice it is to say they are not very selective programs compared to those in which most people on this website are interested. I have since been rejected by 4 of the programs (on the grounds of my low GPA) and with further reason I don't believe I will be accepted into the remaining three.
As for my lackluster GPA: I don't really know why I neglected my grades during undergrad. I'm sure it is not indolence--I learned the aforementioned languages and began my business during my enrollment. I also completed both Highschool and Undergrad a year early. It leaves only that I considered it to be a lower priority (I have learned that GPA is weighted exceedingly heavier than SAT/GMAT in graduate admissions than undergraduate--in essence, a good test doesn't make up for bad grades in the former, while it does in the latter).
I have read anecdotally that people in similar predicaments to mine made up for the bad GPA by taking classes at a different university (as opposed to doing a postbacc) so that the GPA shown on the transcript received by the prospective admissions committee reflects only those courses taken at the second university. Is that my most viable option to improve my application profile? Is retaking courses via postbacc viewed more favorability by adcoms? Should I retake the GMAT (would an additional 7-9% really save me)?
Edit: The stats of my profile satisfy the advertised minimum requirements for the programs (albeit sometimes such requirements are not advertised properly--if at all)
