To answer your immediate question: Your approach here is great (and a perfect example of how strategic thinking - in this case, TESTing THE ANSWERS - can turn certain types of story problems into simple Arithmetic)!

supposed to read 90/day
actually read 75/day for first x number of days
left 690 pages to be read for the last 6 days
6 days left*90= 540 pages that were planned to be read
690 actual pages left -540 planned to be read = 150 additional pages that were built up over x number of days
90-75 = 15 pages per day additional pages that were tacked onto the last 6 days
150/15= x days = 10 days
10+6=16 total days
