Hey
saurabh9gupta and
L4S!
Let me pitch in!
Hope I am not too late!
Lets go into detail with the most debated Question 1 -
1. According to the passage, which of the following is probably true of the storage spaces mentioned in line 14?
(B) They served a ceremonial as well as a practical function.
(E) They belonged to and were used by the community as a whole.
The first doubt -
"Though
no direct evidence exists that such spaces were used to store food...."
A few of you are confused with this part and are saying that answer E is wrong because of the above.
But please read the question stem properly. "According to the passage, which of the following is
probably true of the storage spaces?"
Since the stem uses "probably", we can accept option E as supported by the passage.
Second doubt -That formal management of food resources was needed is suggested by the large size of storage spaces
located around some communal Great Kivas (underground ceremonial chambers).
We just have information about the location and not the use. This is like an inference question, can we infer anything about option B from the passage? Nope.
Western Pueblo communities lacking sufficient arable land to support their populations could have preserved the necessary extra food, including imported foodstuffs, in such apparently communal spaces.
Firstly the passage mentions "large size" storage spaces.
Next a reason for the the community as a whole to store food "lack sufficient arable land". Notice how it is not just a few people lacking the arable lands. It clearly talks about entire communities lacking arable land! So it is logical to go with option E!
Hope this helps!
