In the xy-coordinate system, line k passes through points (-5m, 0) and (0, 2m). Which of the following is a possible equation of line k?

A. y = -5/2*x + 2m
B. y = 2/5*x - 5m
C. y = 5/2*x + 2m
D. y = 2/5*x + 2m
E. y = -2/5*x - 5m


Kudos for a correct solution.

METHOD 2:

points are (-5m, 0) and (0, 2m)

Slope = (Y2-Y1) / (X2-X1) = (2m - 0) / (0 - (-5m) ) = 2m / 5m = 2/5

OPTION A, C and E can be Ruled out as they have a different slope

Among Option B and D, check the option by substituting any point

Option B - y = 2/5*x - 5m
Checking point (0, 2m) --- at x=0, we get y is NOT equal to 2m so a NOT a possible answer (Ruled Out)

i.e. Option is Correct Option

OPTION D is the OA.. for the people who are having difficulty in getting the Y-intercept, it is already given in the question where we have a point (0 , 2m) --> which means that the value of x is 0 and the line intersects the Y axis at 2m.

The fastest and easiest way to look for a line is to look for its slope .. more often than not the slope gives a pretty good idea of what one should look for
Slope (M)= \(\frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}\)

slope= \(\frac{2m-0}{0-(-5m)}\)

Slope = \(\frac{2m}{5m} ==>\frac{2}{5}\)

SO our line will have a slope of \(\frac{2}{5}\)

which option corresponds to your slope of \(\frac{2}{5}\)

OPTION E

E is the correct answer

First, we determine the slope of line k:

(2m - 0)/(0 - (-5m)) = 2m/(5m) = 2/5

Next, we substitute (0, 2m) into the slope-intercept form of a line to determine the y-intercept.

2m = 2/5(0) + b

2m = b

So, the equation for line k is y = (2/5)x + 2m

Answer: D
