In theory, the new Airbus Aircraft should be more fuel-efficient, as it has a much smaller cross-section than the Boeing 797 creating much less drag.

A. as it has a much smaller cross-section than the Boeing 797 creating much less drag.:-no "comma" before creating means creating is modifying Boeing 797

B. as it has a much smaller cross-section than had the Boeing 797 creating much less drag. Same as Above

C. as it has a much smaller cross-section than that proposed for the Boeing 797, creating much less drag. :- correct

D. as it should have a much smaller cross-section than that proposed for the Boeing 797 creating much less drag. Same as A, also use of should be wrong

E. as it had a much smaller cross-section than the proposed Boeing 797, creating much less drag.:-smaller cross-section is compared with Boeing, also use of past tense is incorrect

How come we had comparison of design present, while suddenly we have Boing design proposed.

Hello thakurarun85,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, Option C does not actually change the intended meaning.

Option A compares "has a much smaller cross-section" with "the Boeing 797 (has)", conveying the meaning that the new Airbus Aircraft's cross-section is much smaller than the cross-section of the Boeing 797; Option C directly compares "cross-section" with "that (cross-section) proposed for the Boeing 797", conveying the same meaning.

The inclusion of "proposed" introduces a very slight ambiguity of meaning, but the other four answer choices have more concrete meaning and grammatical errors, making C the best answer choice; remember, on GMAT you must look for the best answer choice, NOT a perfect answer choice.

We hope this helps.
All the best!

Option Elimination -

A. as it has a much smaller cross-section than the Boeing 797 creating much less drag. -"cross-section" compared with " Boeing 797." And "creating much less drag" modifies "Boeing 797" as against "the new Airbus Aircraft."

B. as it has a much smaller cross-section than had the Boeing 797 creating much less drag. - the same issues of "creating" as in A.

C. as it has a much smaller cross-section than that proposed for the Boeing 797, creating much less drag. - "that" refers to the "cross-section." ok

D. as it should have a much smaller cross-section than that proposed for the Boeing 797 creating much less drag. - the same issue of "creating."

E. as it had a much smaller cross-section than the proposed Boeing 797, creating much less drag. - past "had" is wrong.
