Hi, I'm new to the Gmat club and I'd like some feedback about where I stand in a pool of b-school applicants. I understand that I do not have much of a professional profile right now. I am mainly interested in hearing what others have to say about my general education/career background and how it might work to my benefit. I have just begun studying for the Gmat and researching schools...As of now, as much as I'd love to apply this year, I'm not confident about it (because of the work experience) But, I like to think ahead. For b-school, I'm looking for something along the lines of a media/entertainment management.
- Bachelor's degree in English (honors) and Economics from Rutgers U. - Class of 2010 (general gpa: 3.3/ english gpa: 3.8) ... my general gpa is low due to a year of pre-medicine courses.
- Impressive college organizational leadership (positions held: Founder, President, Co-Pres, Treasurer, Secretary, Class Instructor)
- 1 year work experience- Publishing industry
- Heavily involved in community activities and have held several team management roles
- extracurriculars that are related to entertainment/media (i.e. experience in blogging, freelance writing, performing arts, event planning)
- Female/ South Asian descent
Some clear-cut questions I have:
1) If I successfully take the GMAT this summer and gain recommendations from a college professor and a community organization president, do you think I have a chance at applying this round?..to be admitted into the Fall 2012 semester?
2) Do you recommend that I try and get more experience in math/finance/quantitative skills? For example, I found some continuing studies courses that seem like good introductions to finance/business skills.
3) How negatively will my lack of work experience effect my application? If I am somehow admitted in this year's application round, I will have 2.5 years work experience going into b-school.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
