After reading some older threads, it seems that the gross of the R1 waitlisters who were later accepted were notified between the deadlines for the R2 interview notifications and the R1 deposit deadline. I guess that means we'll start hearing some news AFTER the 22 of July.

Quick Background: I was on the waitlist for Jan 2011 intake (applied in R2 last year) from September till 3rd week December before being rejected. I applied again for Jan 2012 (in R1) and got an admit mail a few days back.

This post is to update you on my recent experience of being on INSEAD waitlist. During my waitlist period last year I sent the AdCom two additional referral letters and also send one update email on increased professional responsibilities.

Please note that there is NO clear cut formula to success while on waitlist…some are admitted without sending anything and some are not after sharing updates. The decision of AdCom is more a factor of class diversity (cultural, regional, professional, academic,….) and all the other factors that you have read on INSEAD website..

I suggest you to prepare for both possible outcomes….easier said than done…I can completely understand. R1 waitlists have a lot better chance than R2/R3 just because the AdCom reviews their status more than other round waitlist because you applied earlier.

There is no average conversion rate from waitlist…I have asked this question multiple time to alums/on INSEAD chats/other forums….it varies a lot year by year and intake by intake…all figures available on the net are just estimates

@mbaanalyst: thanks for the info. When you applied for Jan 2012, were there significant changes to your application from the one for Jan 2011? How did you justify applying again within one year?

No significant changes....i paid a campus visit to Singapore and some increased responsibilities in office..changed some essays in a small manner

When you will be removed from waitlist you can receive either of the following three responses:
1. you are selected...best case..:)
2. you are rejected and clearly asked not to reapply
3. you are rejected and comparitively (to option 2) you receive a better response...reapplication instructions are given...i was in this category

i applied with all essays + 2 new recos. + 2 interviews and compared with new batch of applications before selection this time

278 out of about 500 to enroll right ? Only the first round is done. Does it means that for the 1st round alone they have admitted more than half the class ? It's huge !!!

I thought it was high too. But I am guessing there will be quite a few who just signed onto MBAConnect but would eventually withdraw from INSEAD. I know at least one person on MBAConnect who has decided to attend IMD instead of INSEAD. So the bloated MBAConnect number might not be the best indication of how many people from Rd 1 will actually attend INSEAD.
