My experience / 2cents from the interviews I attended late last year.
I was interviewed by a senior financial analyst from Siemens and the President of large consulting firm (who had just won the award for the 25 Best consultants in the World), both in Chicago, USA. There was no good cop / bad cop strategy in my case. They were both sweet. However they do have the older alumnus / recent alumnus concept in place when they choose the interviewers. The recent alumnus answers the question on "Will I be happy to have this person as my classmate?" and the older alumnus answers the question of "Is this person serious about INSEAD MBA and does this person have what it takes to make it big?". I got this information from talking with the interviewers.
Some of the minor things I would like to throw some light into.
1. Even if you email your interviewer a copy of your application prior to the interview, please take a hard copy with you to share it with them. I emailed my interviewers a copy and both tried opening it on their iPad and it did not open right. The application didn’t open on my iPad either. Luckily I had a hard copy which was much appreciated.
2. Be ready to be surprised with the length of the interview. Everyone I had spoken to prior to my interview unanimously said their interviews lasted between 45-60 mins. But mine was quite different. The interview with the recent alumnus was too friendly and went on for 1hr and 45mins at Starbucks. The other interview lasted 20mins from the time I entered the interviewer's office building back outside the building. It was an express interview.
3. Be Honest. I was questioned on one of my passions. There was really no rationale answer I could give to that question unless I decided to narrate all that had observed from my childhood and my experiences. All I said was "I truly believe in it" and the interviewer was very happy and acknowledged with awe in his eye and a reconfirming head shake. This was the one question that I would say got me my place at INSEAD.
4. As much as people say "Practice before the interview" I would advocate against it. I would advise you to be aware of the questions and know your answers, but I see that practice makes me sound too monotonous and I lose my spontaneity. Know yourself and prepare accordingly.
5. Be assured to be asked the same set of Why MBA? Why now? Why INSEAD? What Next? questions. Read your application essays thoroughly before you go for your interview. My interviewer had my application in front of her and asked very specific questions from my essays.
6. My interviewers appreciated my curiosity to know more about their experience at INSEAD. This also paved way for some side talk which made me feel very comfortable. The older alumnus I interviewed with had attended INSEAD the year of my birth; a fact that fascinated both of us and made us laugh. It was a fun way to start our conversation which put me at ease instantly.
All the best and hope to see you at INSEAD next Jan!

I've just had my first interview today. I thought the interview went well. a few notes:

I took MBSpasssionate advice and brought along my profile page and resume. It turn out to be very useful for my interviewer, she used it as note. She was very nice. We met in a local coffee shop. I won't go into the details here, but several questions stand out:

1.My background(what and where I have done up until this point) and My job description
    2.Any leadership role
3.Why I want MBA, and what my plan for the future 5-10 years after INSEAD.
4.The time in which i failed, and how I handle the situation.
5.What do I like and dislike about my job
6.If a teammate is not puling his or her weight, what do I do ?
7.Are there any other school I am applying to.
8.If I don't get in INSEAD, what will I do next
9.What is the next step in my position

The interview lasted about 1h15 min :-). I hope this helps for anyone out there who are interviewing

hey ppl.. I just got the details of the interviewers. mail from HS said that we need to send profile bit of the application. so do we send the entire application or split the pdf, but its a secured file and we cannot really split it

With Acrobat I saved it as "images" and then recombined as a pdf. You're right that trying to split the PDF or do anything to it as it is, results in it telling you that you do not have the rights.

yes but the mail from HS- gives u the link as vvv suggested... and then you do not really need to save the pdf as images or split it. Hope that helps...

Hi folks,

Lots of information in this forum, and thanks much to all you folks :-).. I guess its time for me start my bit of sharing.

About me, I am,yet again, an Indian IT engineer (by qualification) - Have 8 years of work ex and am currently managing the Information Security function for a bank in the middle east. Gmat 710, got promoted twice in the bank, set up the security function, cultural secretary in a local community, active in social service and I can speak 5 languages. And yeah, strong recco from my previous boss (he was the DGM heading the department) and a colleague.

I finished the application process on 26th (that's when my second recco was submitted). Now sitting with fingers crossed. I have some specific queries, if any of you can help- it would be great :-)

1. INSEAD website says that they will confirm within 2 weeks if the application is complete - How long does it take in reality?
2. The dead line for interview decision for R2 is 19 July 2013 - When i read the blogs, most people look to have recd their pre-interview and interview decision during the last week. Is this right? or when can we expect the decision process to start for R2?
3. Same question for interview decision as well - INSEAD website talks about 6 weeks for final notification. Again is this an approx time frame or does it really take so much time?
4. It would be great if some of you can post the time frames from date of submission - to first email confirmation - pre-interview confirmation - interview scheduling - to final confirmation letter. ( i am sure this would be helpful for many)

And yeah, i shall also keep you guys posted on my proceedings :-)

Cheers and good luck to all.

If you want an answer to these timeline questions, just go to the January 2013 Intake - Calling All Applicants thread and go to last July. You'll see pretty plainly what happens and when and even with which advisor, in your case most likely H.S.

This is my experience, based on my location, and coordinator. Take it for what it is.

1. 3 days.
2. Approximately less than 1 month, more like 26 days. This is a function of where is your location, who is your coordinator, and your background. If you are Indian IT engineer, expect last minute.
3. Again, Indian IT engineer, expect last minute. Since your group is over represent
4. Again, this is base on my profile

Day 0: application submitted
Day 3: application confirm
Day 26: Pre-selected interview
Day 40: Interview information
Day 50: First interview
Day 54: Second interview (scheduled)
Day ??: not sure, will update later. admission decision.

Had my first interview. Questions didn't matter. It was very loose and informal. Interviewer was not the egotistical type. Laid back.

Told me they basically just wanna know from her, if you fit in and that you can handle a foreign country.
