Hi everyone

This is my first post here on GMATClub, so I thought I'd introduce myself, and ask for some advice while I was at it.
I'm a 24 year old (25 in April) Australian Male. I'm a Civil/Structural Engineer working as a Project Manager, and I'm looking for a career and scene/country change. I'm thinking about coming over to the US, but I'm a bit worried about the recession and the like (with that said - I would think that not many people who have MBA's from Top 20 unis have to look overly hard for employment). I'm also thinking about Spain (IE, IESE), Singapore (INSEAD), London (LSE, Said, Judge), and Hong Kong (Hong Kong UST).
I have a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with First Class Honours (although - my GPA isn't so great :S In Australia, if you finish with an average of 75 and above, you get First Class Honours. To put it in perspective, of my graduating class of 94 Civil Engineering Students, only 3 of us got 1st Class Honours). I won various awards for coming 1st in year for two subjects, and I won an award for my thesis (best Civil Engineering Thesis - 2007), for my thesis on the Community as a Stakeholder on Large Infrastructure Projects. During my time at uni, I also won an "Engineering Excellence Award" from the Institute of Engineers Australia for the work I did during my Internship.
In addition to this, I also have a Master or Engineering Science in Project Management - which I also finished with distinction (78% avg - again, not a very flash "GPA", but I finished first in my graduating year).
In an attempt to kick-start my career change earlier this year, I had a dig at the CFA chartership - I took the Level 1 exam 2 weeks ago, and I'm waiting on the results to come out in Late Jan / Early Feb 2011. It was pretty difficult - so I've got my fingers crossed - but the pass rates are quite low.
I'm not just a book-worm though! I've got 3 years of full-time "post-bachelor degree" work experience, and 5 years of work experience all up (I worked full-time and studied full-time simultaneously for about 2.5 years) working at industry giant companies in Australia (design and delivery of $1bn+ infrastructure projects). I expect to be a Chartered Engineer mid-way thru next year too.
I've read some really inspiring things on this forum - and I'll be aiming for high 600's or low 700's in my GMAT. My intention is to start studying in 2011.
I don't like setting out on expeditions that are doomed to failure - so can anyone give me any advice? Would I be wasting my time applying for a top 20 international B-School? Or do I have a puncher's chance without having too much extra curricular backing behind me...?
I hope to get to know all of you guys a little better real soon
MackyCee
