So I have a pretty low GPA given the schools I'm targeting and was able to get a 740 gmat to help compensate for that. But I'm also a couple years below the average age so while I plan on applying this year I wouldn't be surprised if the schools ultimately want to see another year under my belt.

As such I'm starting to worry that my 740 will go from enough above the average to practically the average in the next year or two, especially with the new gmat rules allowing you to see your score first then cancel I would think that the average will continue to rise more so than the usual year over year rise.

Some average GMAT scores for reference:

Kellogg - 728
Stanford - 733
Wharton - 731
Booth - 726

I feel like when I started my research only a year or two ago most of the top schools were less than 720 now most seem to be 730+ Hi redfield, Thanks for your question. Here is what I think... Focus on what YOU can control. You recognized you have a low GPA. So you focused on the GMAT and got a great score in that 740. That is wonderful and this will absolutely help offset a lower GPA. You can't control that GMAC changed how scores report or even worry about if 740 is the new 700. As you see, you are above the average at all the schools you mention. That means you will be considered- and when you are, do you have everything else? Do your career goals make sense? Do you know why you want Stanford and how they can help you? do you have some other safety schools where you can feel good about what you can learn should you not be in the 6% of Stanford admits? This is where you should focus now that you have a GMAT score that will get you in the consideration pool. If you spend all your time to get the 760 and you have not done the above, it will not get you in. If you seek help on how to tell your best story, that's what we do. So, even outside of my situation trying to compensate for a lower GPA, would you all agree 730 is essentially the new 700? I imagine there are some articles discussing this topic but I wanted to get your personal opinions here on the forum and also if it's something I might need to consider trying to get a 750-760 on the GMAT should I need to reapply this time next year.
