Is the GMAT simulation test harder on Economist?  [#permalink]

Hello,

I have been prepping for the GMAT for 2 months using Target Test Prep. I initially took one of the official GMAT practice exams from the GMAC website and scored a 620. Since studying and improving my timing, I was under the impression that I will score higher. However I took the simulation test on the economist and scored a 550. Is the simulation test harder than the actual test?

Usually folks that I know have reported easier. Like 750 and the actual GMAT was about 600.

I would have to agree...

I listed this comment in another thread, but I'll paste it below for simplicity:

In the weeks leading up to my official GMAT, I took a few Economist practice tests and received a 770 and 760 on two separate exams, in exam-like settings:

Oct 18 - 770 (Q50, V45)
Oct 20 - 760 (Q51, V43)

On the real exam I scored a 660, a full ~110 points lower that my Economist practice tests that I took 1 week prior:

Oct 27 - 660 (Q48, V33)

In my opinion, the Economist has one of the worst practice tests available on the market. I would not recommend them; they are far too easy when compared to the actual exam.

The only way to know how you will truly score is the actual GMAT exam. These practice tests, especially Economist, are not reflective of the real thing.

I would stay away from the Economist. Thought I was learning a lot, scoring mid 600's on practice exams. Then I scored a damn 480 on my first GMAT exam. Basically wasted my money and time. I went to Manhattan prep and got a 660 on my next exam. I'm applying to schools now but plan on taking the GMAT one more time in case a higher score can push me over the edge.

I took the simulation test today and found it tough. But a lot of it could be because I ran out of time. Verbal was tougher than Quant. Overall, from what I have heard, it is supposed to be easier than the actual GMAT.

I scored a 470 - Q31, V23. Very poor :( I'd also love some tips on the same and had some specific questions. Have started another thread. Can you also give me some feedback? Thanks!
