Re: Is the perimeter of a certain rectangular garden greater than 50 meter [#permalink]

The question is:

is 2l +2w >50?

(1) The two shorter sides (width) are each 15m
2l +2(15)>50?
2l > 20?
l > 10?

Well we know the width is the shortest side and the width is 15m, so the Length must logically be greater than 15...so this is sufficient

(2)
l=w+5
2(w+5) +2w >50?
4w>40
w>10?
we don't know...
Insufficient

(1) The two shorter sides are 15. that means longer side must be atleast 15.1.
add 15+15+15.1+15.1> 50

Sufficient

(2) width + 5 = Length
width can be anything from 0.1 to infinite. various possible answers.

Not sufficient

Is the perimeter of a certain rectangular garden greater than 50 meters?

(1) The two shorter sides of the garden are each 15 meters long.

If the shorter sides are each 15 meters long, the longer sides must be at least 15 meters long.

Perimeter > 60. SUFFICIENT.

(2) The length of the garden is 5 meters greater than the width of the garden.

Clearly insufficient.

Answer is A.
