Is x a negative number?
(1) x^2 is a positive number. The square of a number is positive or 0, so this statement just tells us that x is not 0. Not sufficient.
(2) x^3 is non-positive. This translates to \(x^3 \leq 0\), so x \(\leq 0\). x can be negative or 0. Not sufficient.
(1)+(2) The first statement rules out x = 0, so only x < 0 is left from (2). Sufficient.
Answer: C.
