Option 2 = (90 - 9) + 0.1 * 81

= 81 + 8.1 = 89.10

Option 4 = 90 + 0.1 * 90 - 10

= 89
So the OA is correct - B

OFFICIAL GMAT EXPLANATION

If Isaac purchases the item from the Internet, he will pay $(80 + 10) = $90.

If Isaac purchases the item from Store X, he will pay
$90 – 0.10($90) + 0.10[$90 – 0.10($90)] = $90 – $9 + $8.10 = $89.10.

If Isaac purchases the item from Store Y, he will pay $90.

If Isaac purchases the item from Store Z, he will pay
$90 + 0.10($90) – $10 = $90 + $9 – $10 = $89.

Therefore, the lowest price for which he can purchase the item is $89.00.

1. Internet: $80, with no sales tax, plus $10 shipping fee : $80 + $10 = $90

2. Store X: $90, a 10% discount, plus 10% tax on discounted price: $90 * \(\frac{90}{100}\) * \(\frac{110}{100}\) = $89.1

3. Store Y: $90, no tax: $90

4. Store Z: $90, a 10% sales tax, and $10 rebate after tax: $90 * \(\frac{110}{100}\) - 10 = 89

The lowest price is $89.0

Let's calculate the total cost for each option and then determine the lowest price at which Isaac can purchase the item.

1. Internet:
Cost: $80 + $10 (shipping fee) = $90

2. Store X:
Discounted Price: $90 - 10% of $90 = $90 - $9 = $81
Tax on Discounted Price: 10% of $81 = $8.10
Total Cost: $81 + $8.10 = $89.10

3. Store Y:
Cost: $90 (no tax)

4. Store Z:
Sales Tax: 10% of $90 = $9
Cost after Tax: $90 + $9 = $99
Rebate: $10
Total Cost: $99 - $10 = $89

The lowest price at which Isaac can purchase the item is $89, which is by choosing Store X or Store Z.

Let us analyze the options one by one,

1. Internet: $80, with no sales tax, plus $10 shipping fee => 80+10=90
2. Store X: $90, a 10% discount, plus 10% tax on discounted price => 1.1(90*0.9) = 89.1
3. Store Y: $90, no tax =>90
4. Store Z: $90, a 10% sales tax, and $10 rebate after tax => [90*1.1]-10 =99 - 10 =89
