Hey Team,
I am really confused about my chances of getting ito ISB.

My details are as follows:

  • I just gave GMAT focus and got 675 and am still targetting more like 685 cuz may be that increases my chances for admission and some scholarships.
  • My grad scores were 86.5% in Bcom(H) from Shoolini University.
  • I am a state level Kudo silver medalist and trying on national gold now.
  • I am a 23 year old Male working in sales for just an year but do not wish to continue in it so shifting to Product Management as seems feasible although it does not seem to align to my ultimate goal i.e. to get into Management Consulting which i solely aspire cuz I wish to be that person who has all the knowledge to help any business.
I am confused if i should even choose product maagement or try some other thing which aligns to management consulting and also increases my chances for ISB admissions.

Also let me know if there is a way for me to chooose that helps me to get into ISB MBA and achieve my goals as soon as possible.

Its_me_aka_ak - If you want to get into consulting, that's precisely what you should do.

The hard news is, it's competitive and without an MBA, it's difficult to break into MBB's or top firms (unless you have an established network). But the good news is, there are multiple ways you can get there, including through MBA/ ISB.

Transferable skills is the key term here. From your current Sales role, if you're able to present good overlap (transferable skills) to PM, that could be your route to both get into PM, and signal to MBA adcom about your motivation, skillsets and professional arc. Transitioning from PM to consulting is a path several folks take, particularly into digital strategy consulting, which is on the rise across MBB's and boutiques alike. Internal consulting roles (in companies within your sectors of interest/ experience) are also interesting ones to look at.

On the GMAT, a 695+ would be ideal, considering the competitive pool at ISB.

­A 695 in Focus edition would be 750 of GMAT but yes am certain I will get there.
Also thanks for the affirmation. I will have to make an answer and iterate the "Transferable skills" but for now I will surely start with my PM journey.

Hi,

Recently I gave the GMAT FE and scored 655 (got nervous and couldn't manage the time properly). I have decent GPA of 8.42 from IIT Madras in Chemical Engineering, along with good PoRs (spons & PR/ Corporate relations) in college fests. I have 3 years of work experience in the Leadership development program of Vedanta Limited majorly working in R&D Department (Co-inventor for one patent, 1 promotion) and short 3 month marketing team stint in the beganing. I have 85% in my XII. So, I wanted to know what are my chances for ISB admit with the current GMAT score or should I re-attempt? Kindly suggest.­
