Essay 1: One of the key intrinsic element at the Indian School of Business is “to develop principled, future leaders who improve lives around the world…" Please discuss how you will contribute towards this mission based on examples of your past work and activities? (400 words max)Your potential as a future leader of consequence, is demonstrated from your
past experiences. That's the reason the essay explicitly states that you need to cite examples of your
past work and activities.
Don't be in awe of the the word
world in the title of the essay. After all, each individual being
is a part of the world that we live in. So, anything you might have done (in your
individual or
professional capacity) that might have positively impact the personal/professional life of a few individuals, would qualify.
Also, don't worry if you have no
mega-deeds that impacted a
large section of the society. Hardly anyone would have stories of such deeds to share. Whatever you are doing,
is ultimately in some way, contributing towards the betterment of the world. Hence do justice to your work, by articulating it appropriately. For example, your contribution to a project that automated a manual task, or created an online store, or made a banking system more efficient, or removed logistic bottlenecks, or detected a bug that was performing incorrect calculations, ultimately made life
easier for someone else!
We suggest that a maximum of
2-3 such examples must be cited. Anything
more than that would look like a
laundry list and would not
fit-in, given the 400 word space; anything
less than that could be construed as lack of content.
Essay 2: Additional Information: Kindly share information that you feel is relevant for the Admissions Committee to be aware. For example: current or past gaps in education or employment, professional achievements, awards or other information relevant to your application. (250 words max)While this is an
optional essay, we recommend that PGPpro applicants
do attempt this essay. After all, ISB is giving you a phenomenal space of
250 words that you would rather
not let go waste. Since ISB dos not have any specific essay on the
Statement of Purpose, we suggest that applicants treat this essay as the Statement of Purpose, explaining to ISB how they want their careers to shape up and how PGPpro can catalyze their career growth.
This essay is best addressed along 3 major points.
a) First what you have done in life so far (primarily on the professional/academic front)
b) Second what you want to do in future
c) Third how does ISB fit into the scheme of things
Clearly there are some experiences, attributes, and interests that you already have. This is your past. You have aspirations to do something in the future. Now, based upon what you have done in the past, and what you want to do in future, there are certain gaps in terms of skill sets, in terms of network, or in terms of competencies, that you want the b-school to bridge. So, you need to build a case that equipping yourself with these skillsets, network and competencies will help embark you towards your future goals.
It is also very important that you do a good research on the unique offerings of ISB that would be directly relevant to your aspirations. Please note that mentioning ISB's attributes such as great faculty, good peer group and interactive classes are in most cases a waste of space in the essay; this is because almost every applicant would mention these; imagine what the evaluator of the essay will go through, reading the exact same words one essay after another.
So, what will pay off are the very specific and unique offerings of PGPpro. In fact, if you have had a chance to visit ISB, ISB's Information sessions, or personally interact with any existing student, do highlight it, since this would demonstrate your interest.
