Hi
A_n_j_uFor young applicants it is good to have a strong employer branding (in your case Samsung for example). But I am not able to understand your career growth progression in the last 2 years. The younger an applicant is in the admissions process, the higher the bar for the GMAT score to be considered impressive. But as long as the score remains balanced (high quant score) and the adcom really likes your profile, I would worry less.
My advice for young ISB candidatesWhen you have about 2-3 years of experience, you should think about and develop your “ISB marketing handle”, your unique selling proposition that can get you over the finish line. Your marketing handle is a pitch that the ISB adcom should remember long after they have skimmed over the other profiles. Not everyone at ISB has to be an outlier. If you are a young applicant with only 2-3 years of experience, try to show how you are different from other similar applicants because you were promoted early on, have deep industry knowledge, have worked in project management and crisis management, and have a mature overall perspective.
WHAT MAKES YOU DISTINCTIVE? Pick 2-3 themes and structure your narrative outline around them. Here is an example from one of our successful ISB PGP applicants with exactly 2 years of work experience (not an EEO applicant)
“I am a Supply Chain Analyst at < consulting company name> and have led supply chain consulting and analytics projects as a consultant with FMCG clients such as Unilever, Mars and Walmart (note: brand association). I have spent my free time extensively in my family’s agriculture business in an agri town in a 5-generation agricultural family, observing the operations of agricultural markets (mandis). But professionally, I have decided to start my journey in FMCG supply chain analytics space before building my business at the intersection of agriculture and technology...”The above statement is not a goals statement, but a solid guiding principle that helped the applicant build his entire essay around the above statement.
If you do not apply this year and take a little more time to hone your profile, you could take on projects and professional opportunities that add a new dimension to your portfolio. If you failed to gain this insight earlier, profile enhancement would need to show as a take-off point on your career graph, depending on your goals. For example, in a strategic role in a start-up or in consulting where you gain hands-on experience of the building blocks of business, negotiate an international assignment, or take on a starter role in an industry you want to enter post-MBA. I believe there will be no shortage of opportunities for young and ambitious people.
Feel free to reach out for a complimentary discussion to get more ideas.Best wishes
