Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I took a drop of 1 yr for a reattempt at the competitive exams like AIEEE, JEE.
So I have been a part of 3 firms , SmartAnalyst, WNS and Axtria (current). All work was in healthcare. In Smartanalyst , my work was majorly in healthcare related consulting projects. In WNS, more like analytics reporting stuff. And in Axtria my work is a mixture of hardcore analytics and consulting. All three of them involved interacting with US onshore/client based interaction .

Let me know if this seems suitable. I would also love to know my chances of admission this time as the competition is increased.

Thanks

Hey,

Please evaluate my profile for ISB:

Age: 27 yr

GMAT Score: 750 [Quant:51 , Verbal:40]

Educational Qualifications:

Graduation: Completed B.E in ECE from JIIT,Noida in 2015 with 65%.
H.S.C: secured 80.2% from Science stream from CBSE Board in 2010.
S.S.C: secured 88.40% from CBSE Board in 2008.

Work Experience:
Working for 4.1 yrs (currently) primarily in Healthcare consulting/analytics firms.

Extra Curricular:
Won two major Astronomy quizzes in school and got to visit two different National Astrophysics Labs in India namely in Kodaikanal and Nanital. Also delivered presentations and talked to a lot of different scientists . To-date ,still I have a good passion for astronomy.
Took part in lot of badminton and tennis tournaments at college level.
Volunteered for an Anti-Drugs and Anti-Ragging Campaign in college run by the group “Leaders for Tomorrow” across Delhi/NCR.
Participated and completed Airtel Delhi 5k marathon (2019)
Currently an active member of my current company's internal club and we regularly host/organize different events for our employees with a headcount of 1200+ folks.

Long term Goals:
Being in consulting for long time , I hope to remain in this field particularly a mix of analytics + consulting with aim being working for big players like MBB.

Please evaluate my profile as I hope to apply for R1 this year.

Hey,

Your GMAT score and passion for astronomy stand out. You should link it to the experience of your peers in the application. Acads are fine. You completed your schooling in 2010 and graduated in 2015, is there a gap or was it a 5-year course?
Could you share a bit more about your work ex, details of the firm(s) you've been a part of and the impact therein? Prima facie, the current profile and your goals are linked well so the 2nd essay (why ISB) should be a breeze.

All the best!

Manan

Hello!
Your GMAT and acads are decent and so is the extra-curricular experience at college. For a comprehensive evaluation, could you share a bit more about your work ex and any achievements therein? Also, what about your hobbies and extra-curricular now?
The tricky part would be to bridge the gap between your current role as an Audit Analyst at a big 4 and your short-term goal of getting into marketing. For e.g. if you liked it so much during internship / college then you could've pursued it after graduation.

Thanks,
Manan
Hi Manan, thanks for your response!

I mentioned marketing strategy as an example of a field that I have found I have an aptitude for; however, strategy consulting is the field I would like to pursue a career in.

I currently work as an audit analyst at KPMG Global services as a part of the Dutch practice. Here we perform the required audit procedures for our clients, most of whom are based in the Netherlands.

Being an audit analyst, I believe, has given me an overview of the operations and functions of various companies in various industries. I have also been able to gain an understanding of how various factors interact with a business entity and its operations.

At work, my team and I won the first position at the innovation fest, which was basically a strategic innovation competition on how KGS NL can expand its operations. We then had to present our suggestions to the whole team and won the first prize. Apart from this, I have had good reviews from supervisors.

I believe my experiences at work and in college, will assist me in my short term goal of becoming a strategy consultant and my long term goal of being an entrepreneur.

As for my hobbies, with work and corona, it has been very difficult to find time for my hobbies but I do try to find the time to read and play video games.
Thanks, you need to carve out a couple of good examples from your work where you demonstrated leadership, displayed ownership with positive impact your the firm, your team and yourself. Regarding goals, be clear on how would ISB help you achieve your short term goal and how it links with a long-term one of being an entrepreneur (an idea of when and what venture would help your cause). Work very hard on your application, this is not a profile which jumps out.

Thanks for your response. The 1-year hiatus would need to be mentioned in the application (not a bit deal in long-term but do add what you go out of the break). The work ex seems decent if you've worked in core analytics. If at WNS, it was more around reporting / creating widgets as opposed to statistical and business analysis then the story needs to be presented differently. As a plan B, you could focus on pure-play analytics firms such as Mu Sigma to take on more client-facing / engagement type of roles as a step-up.
This year, with a few deferred admissions, it would be tougher to get in to ISB. Since you've already take the GMAT, I'd suggest you apply in R1 as competition would be tougher in R2 or 3 when majority of the applicants would've made up their minds considering the pandemic and economic recovery trends.

Feel free to reach out for further queries.

Cheers,
Manan

Thanks again!

I will try to work on my appplication further.

While I do not have many such examples from my current employment due to the fact that I have been working for less than a year and it is my first job.

The ideas I presented during the competition i mentioned were ways the company could increase its revenue and the upper management is looking to implement some of those suggestions.

I do however have many such examples from my time in college. A major one being that within 2 years of its inception, I was able to assist the commerce socety of my college in rankin among the top 10 commerce societies of Delhi University as a part of its leadership committee.

Would such examples not be expected of an early entry applicant as it is evident that they would not have much work-ex?

I apologize for bombarding you with questions. I cannot thank you enough for your invaluable inputs.

Hi Manan,
So work at WNS was not exactly reporting. You mentioned the correct word. It was more like statistical and business analysis.
I have only two more questions if you could answer-
1. Even if i apply in round 1 , are my chances bleak for ISB ?
2.Other than ISB what schools can i target to ? I am open to all geography. Primarily consulting schools.

Thanks,

Yes, for EEOs the balance can be tilted in favor of college-related examples but you should substantiate your traits using at least one work-related example.
Feel free to reach out or ask more here!

1. No the chances aren't bleak. Have a well-structured application, highlight the traits you bring to the table and how would they help your peers and the school! You do have a good chance at it.

2. You could look at schools such as INSEAD, LBS, Yale and Columbia where almost 35%-55% of the class ends-up in Consulting. Closer home, you should target NUS. With this score and profile, you do stand a chance and a few of them. Within India, nothing better than ISB for consulting.

Hi Sampath,
Overall, you have a decent profile and good chances to get into ISB. The GMAT score complements your profile. Good extra-curricular / achievements section. However, scoring the Bridge-to-India scholarship won't be as easy. A number of international applicants come in with similar profiles (post-grads outside India + engineering / technical profiles). Are there any other activities / achievements outside of work? Also, what are the post-PGP goals?

Thanks,
Manan

Hi Garima,

Could you provide more information for the below for us to do a comprehensive evaluation?
[*] Your university/college for graduation and any extra-curricular activities there?
[*] Details around your work at the IT firm?
[*] Your non-profit firm- which space does it operate in, what's the size and long-term vision?

Cheers,

Hi,

I would appreciate a profile evaluation!

Age: 21
Work experience: < 1 year
GMAT score: 710 (Q49, V38)
CGPA: 7.152
XII: 92.4%
X: 6.8 (Does this matter?)
Bachelor's degree: B.Com.
Alma mater: Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi
International experience: None as such. However, I work as a part of the dutch practice at KPMG in india.

I want to apply for the PGP through the early entry option.
Hi Ash1251, overall its decent profile. However, because you are planning to apply to the very competitive Early entry option and because few aspects of your profile (such as academics and extracurricular are on the average side), please see if you consider re-appearing in GMAT and pushing your scores by 20+ points.

This will definitely significantly enhance your profile.

Hi abell78989, your GMAT score itself is a big WOW and truly differentiates your profile.

You have not mentioned in detail what exactly you do, as part of your work in Healthcare analytics domain. However, your career goal of of continuing to work in the consulting domain, seems to be very closely aligned with the kind of work that you are currently doing. That's a good thing.

On the flip side, extra-curricular and academics do seem to be slightly on the average side.

Overall, assuming that the statement of purpose is articulated well, an interview call should not seem like a distant dream :) .

Hi dvsampath, I am assuming you are working in the Detroit area.

Your Masters in Mechanical engineering in the US and the fact that you have 6 years of International work experience in the automotive industry, will definitely add to your advantage.

The one thing is missing in your post was that I did not find anything in terms of your career goals (Why MBA :? ). Make sure that your career goals are strongly aligned with your academic and professional work-experience so far; after all, you have invested so much (in terms of time and effort) to evolve into your current role of working as an Automotive professional. Obviously neither you nor ISB would want that entire experience, to go abegging.
