Hi there,

Your profile may or may not be suitable for ISB & IIMs. I cannot opine unless I have more information about you. Such as :

1. Where did you work ? What capacity? Any leadership/ team work experience? Which Industry, location ?
2. Are you involved in any extra curricular activities or community service ?
3. What is your GMAT score ?
4. Why are you going for a second MBA ?

Please post all this info for a profile review. Alternatively, you can get in touch with me to discuss it over the phone.

As an ISB alumnus, I must say you have a strong profile!

Good mix of consistent academic scores and diverse, multinational experience. You haven't mentioned extra-curriculars which are a key component of your profile for any top B-school. Given you come from a diverse field, you have a good chance of getting in (assuming extra-curriculars are decent too) as B-schools love diversity in their class. GMAT score of ~680 should be ok given your profile.

Why don't we get on a call to discuss your profile further? You may contact me on the details mentioned below.

Hi,

Please find my short version of CV below.

Academic qualification:
- 10th CBSE : 92%
- 12th CBSE: 83%
- B.E. (IT): 79%
- Yet to give the GMAT

Work Experience : Working in a Multinational-in the Quality assurance domain for 2.5 yrs. ( Manual Testing)
- Leading the Offshore team.
-1 Promotion ( Expecting the next one soon)

Extra Curricular activities :
-A member of Toastmasters International , Have numerous public speaking certificates but they are all till school level + a few from toastmasters.
-Passionate about writing - with some of my articles on social issues present online. ( No certificates as such )
-Helped a friend set up his " Start up " by designing his website / content writing for the website / Selection of products which the consumers might like etc.-
-Many such little things but have no document to prove.

I need an honest opinion on whether i should aim for ISB ? If yes , What should i do to improve my profile & Chances of getting an admit?

Hi somgmat,

We think you have a good profile but you must work on making it spectacular:
1. On the work experience front, leading a team within such a short period of time is good. You must highlight learnings from this in your application, it will add an extra zing. A promotion at workplace will help too.
2. Academically, we think you've done well so far. It will be great if you can also aim for a higher GMAT. A 720+ would place you well above your peers.
3. On the extracurricular side, we think the elements are there- you can showcase a couple of activities that add uniqueness to your profile. For instance, ISB has a thriving Toastmasters community, so if you're good in public speaking, you should definitely highlight this. Do you write a blog or contribute to any existing publications? Writing has become commoditized, so it would be great if you can demonstrate an impact or a following to your writings.

We think that you definitely stand a chance: give your GMAT, get your promotion and sort out your extracurriculars so that they pack a punch. If need be, take your time and apply for R2.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Thanks for the advice. It did motivate me.
1) I Write my own blog but there have been just 8-10 posts till now and not a high following as I am not a regular writer. What should i do to make it impactful ?
2)I am also a freelance model, done a few shows. Can this extra curricular be included in the essays / interviews ?

Hi NewArrival,

While we need more information for a detailed evaluation, but here are a few thoughts.
10 years of work experience or a prior MBA are NOT roadblocks for getting an MBA. However, you need to ask yourself the right questions on Why MBA now, what are you goals and how will another MBA help you achieve this goals.

As long as you have clear answers to this, you can always apply for an MBA with a good GMAT (680+) and strong application essays.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Dear All,

Kindly review my profile as per your convenience.

Academic Credentials:
Class Xth – 85%
Class XIIth – 70%
B.Pharm (2012) – 8.0 CGPA, from Gujarat Technological University
M.S. (Pharm) (2014) – 9.2 CGPA, From National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research
During my master, I have got an U.S. Patent and Research Publication.

GMAT- will be giving by mid Aug,2017 (aiming to score 700+, should I apply in R1 if I get 700?)

Professional Work Experience:

1ST Company: (27 months)

Global procurement consulting firm: I started as an analyst became Sr. Analyst in 1 year. I was leading team of few other analysts but only for few projects. I had worked for number of top Pharma and Medtech companies for their procurement and sourcing consulting requests. During this I had published 2 market research and consulting articles in other renowned publication. I had also been involved in generating additional sales for company. Won couple of awards during the same.

2nd Company: (8 months)

Global Healthcare analytics and consulting firm:

Joined as an analyst (due to different hierarchy of company). I have been working on consulting and syndicated reports for major Medtech firms and Big three management consulting firms. During this I had published 3 market research and consulting articles in other renowned publication. I had also been involved in generating additional sales for company. Won couple of awards during the same.

Looking forward to the review and guidance.

Hi Parikh123,

A strong profile and a well-articulated one as well. Your healthcare background also has the additional component of diversity!

Academically, you have done well. A masters helps too. 700 is a good score for your profile (680 should work too!) and you should definitely apply to R1. Bonus points for diversity. Professionally too, we think you have made a mark with your professional achievements.

We don't see a mention of extra-curriculars, but if you have additional activities that you can showcase on your CV, you'll have the perfect recipe for an ISB application. Well-articulated essays and a good GMAT score should see you through.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hi dpt_74,

A good profile, but you need to work on making it exceptional. Working in the oil and gas sector does add differentiation as compared to the traditional IT sector, but you need to showcase your learnings during the past 3+ years. Professional accomplishments, promotions and awards will help. Instances of team work and team leadership will help too.
710-720 is a good score for your profile. Extracurricular-wise, you'll need to look at something recent. Writing a technical paper does not say much about your leadership potential or personality, so you need to find and articulate activities that do so.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed profile evaluation.

Hi There,
Thankyou for providing additional details about your profile. With 10 years of work ex you maybe on the outer age range of applicants. Have you looked at PGPMAX or other executive options. They might save you some opportunity cost. Since you are a team lead im sure you have good leadership and team work experience to display.
Your extra curricular and community involvement helps in making your profile well rounded.
Regarding GMAT score get a 700 to be safe. Although with your higher number of work ex you may have the benefit of scoring a little below average. You have a good profile to get into ISB and IIMs. Hope this helps. Good Luck !

Hi lohit16,

Academically you have a good profile, the Masters and the IIT brand help too. 710 GMAT is a good score to have too. Professionally, you seem to be doing well as well. Our worry is that your profile seems to be evolving more on the operations side, whereas your interests as well as your PG Diploma lies on the Marketing side.
B-schools like to hear a well-knit well-chalked out story. The next step for you should be to align your MBA story with your strengths. There is no harm is aiming for marketing, but can you demonstrate an aptitude using examples in your history, or should you leave it off the table for now? Clearly written essays will make or break the plot for you now.

We'd like to have a discussion in detail. Feel free to reach out.

Hi ankur2406,

Marine engineers add to the diversity of ISB every year, and your profile is no exception. Good academics so far and good professional experience.

A score of 680-700 should be good to make your profile competitive. Our experience with profiles such as yours is that clarity in terms of why MBA and your goals will be crucial to your application. We also recommend that you start thinking in this direction, as it will be the essence of your application.

Hi NewArrival,

Thanks for sharing more information.
An MBA would definitely help you move into a senior leadership position. While consulting is difficult to break into post 10 years of work experience, you will find plenty of senior general management and senior program management roles. A score of 700 should be good, though a 680 can also get you through with good essays.
The expectation from you would be that you are professionally accomplished and are able to display ample leadership potential. Demonstrating this in your essays would be the key to your application.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hi All,

I am a software IT professional with a B.tech degree and will complete 4 years in the industry in August 2017. I have worked in Cognizant for this entire period and had the opportunity to work in onsite, Zurich, for four months and have led and delivered few projects since then.. The stay there was quite successful and i received a lot of appreciation for the same.
I got my first promotion in August 2014 and was promoted again in April 2016. My last two ratings have also been first.

I have been involved in sports(Cricket, table tennis, badminton and volleyball) and cultural activities since college days and have even led few sports and event teams during this period and won few awards as well.
I plan to take GMAT in September this year.
My academics :
10th : 92.8 %
12th : 92.75 %
B.Tech : 8.63

Kindly evaluate my profile and suggest the score I should target to get into ISB?
