It is often believed that specialized hospitals such as the 3000-bed Narayana Hospital in India lower costs by compromising quality of care. In reality, these hospitals reduce their expenses by innovating on procedures, reducing the chances of complications and leading to faster post-procedure recovery, two crucial effects that reduce the overall costs.
Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument above that such specialized hospitals lower costs because of innovation?
A. Costs at Narayana are 400% lower than the costs at other leading hospitals. B. Narayana uses the same diagnostic infrastructure as used by the leading hospitals in US. C. Narayana has the lowest in-surgery complication rate and one of the best recovery rates in the world. D. For the recovery wards, Narayana is the only hospital that uses solar powered air cooling systems instead of the traditional grid powered air conditioners. E. Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument above that such specialized hospitals lower costs because of innovation?
A. Costs at Narayana are 400% lower than the costs at other leading hospitals. Explanation: Irrelevant
B. Narayana uses the same diagnostic infrastructure as used by the leading hospitals in US. Explanation: Irrelevant - because we don't whether those hospitals in US function the same way in order to maintain a low cost operations.
C. Narayana has the lowest in-surgery complication rate and one of the best recovery rates in the world. Explanation: Correct - These are the 2 crucial factors that reduce the overall cost in operation as per the passage.
D. For the recovery wards, Narayana is the only hospital that uses solar powered air cooling systems instead of the traditional grid powered air conditioners. Explanation: Incorrect - This one is a strong contender according to me however this innovation alone will not help to manage a low cost operation.
E. At Narayana, doctors perform 4 complex procedures a day as compared with the standard practice of 2 procedures a day. Explanation: Incorrect - Weakens the question by saying that Narayana Hospital performs more tasks in a shorter period which is a compromise in quality.
Hence the answer is C
