The subject is compound and hence you need a plural pronoun 'them'.
Pronouns such as it, that and these do not have a specific antecedent to fall back on. Internalize is a verb and a pronoun can not refer to it. That is the reason that the adverb ‘so’ which modifies the verb of ‘internalize’ is preferable over ‘it’

Choice C is the correct one.

It, that and these cannot be used here because they lack logical antecedents. Also, this is commonly tested on the gmat.
Only "so" can stand for "action" phrases, which in this case is "internalize the principles...."

That leaves us with C and D.
D is gross because of "him"
"him" is ambiguous, singular and also kind of sexist

...because doing so is correct expression, leaving two answers C and D. In addition, D uses pronoun him, which is incorrect.

Doing so is the correct idiom

and u need them to modify the plural nouns here
