Do you really have no sense of irony?

It's that attitude that the creators of the forum have stated they don't want. They want this forum to be a place that anyone will feel comfortable contributing and being a part of. That kind of comment doesn't accomplish what the starters of this forum wanted.

Being collegial also involves not unnecessarily censoring people! You think because agold made a joke about non-m7 people washing m7 people's cars people who are shooting for Cornell aren't going to post? Give me a break!

Thanks for stating you agree with me (on some issues). I should not have written back what I did, so I have deleted that post.

I loved your comment about keeping this collegial and not making this the US Senate!

I have apologized to agold for the things I wrote and deleted the posts. I find it amusing that no one sees in the same post where I said "moron" that I also said he has some very good posts? Is this selectivity?

Seriously, if you're not gonna ban yourself how can you possibly have any credibility on this issue.

Hi everyone,

The ban is "only" for a month, during the middle of application season crunch time.

I find it ludicrous that a moderator even has the ability to ban another moderator on these forums, and perhaps this technicality should be looked into by Praet and the rest of the board of directors. As someone who contributes regularly to the B-School application forum, it is really strange that a moderator who spends most of his time on the GMAT forum is able to do this. This is akin to me heading over the GMAT forum, starting an argument with one of their moderators, and then banning that moderator for one month.

My agold2 and agold usernames have been banned. I have sent PMs to rhyme, pelihu, and Praetorian regarding this situation. I am sure that jallen will ban this username in short order. This is truly chaotic and I can't believe this happened.

If the board of directors decides that banning me is best for the community, I'll live with it. If not, I'll be back.

Best of luck everyone.

PS -- Thanks for the support guys, I appreciate it and it made me smile :)

You're right, jallenmorris. Even when taken in complete context, what you said was still offensive. If that was just something that happened to be said in the heat of the moment, then I don't think you should have been that offended at whatever agold said either.

And IMHO moderators should leave banning other moderators (or any other users with say 100+ posts for that matter) to the forum administrators.

solaris1,

While I shouldn't have written it, and even in context it's probably doesn't get much better and I still should not have writen it, but at least let me paste the entire quote just so it is in context.

Not both of them, just agold. A separate thread for those looking outside the top 20? Agold - did you even read what I wrote? You're a freaking moron sometimes. Certainly not all the time, you have some very good posts, but other times I just don't have a clue where you're coming from.

and you banned him. I'm not being selective, I'm saying that calling someone an ass or saying they're being a freaking moron is not the way most collegial debates go. it's like saying "no offense, Trebek, but you're mother's a whore" and then being like "what? I said no offense, you can't be offended." What, specifically, did agold say that was so much more likely to turn off posters than a moderator of this forum calling someone an ass, locking threads and banning members because they sense dissent.

you are hilarious. i don't mean that sarcastically either. i'm laughing!

BTW. your icon is extremely offensive to me... Is that someone fellating themselves? I think that's hardly appropriate for a "collegial" atmosphere such as this. Please ban yourself for offending me with your icon.

Personally, I've never used my moderator priviliges for very much except for editing the first page of the Chicago thread and trying to help out and contribute. If people abuse moderator priviliges, they should lose them.

It's not about sensing dissent. There have been many threads where agold/terp06 and I have disagreed. His attitude seems to be that it's M7 or nothing and anyone that doesn't try for M7 is not as good and doesn't deserve respect.

.... and therefore he should be banned? Listen to yourself... you're obvious very sensitive about having received a 710/720 and applying to a non-m7 school. Frankly, your abusive need to 'defend' yourself from some perceived threat is far more offensive to those applying to schools outside the top-10 than anything agold could have said or implied.

By the way, I've applied to Tuck and that's not an M7 school! I guess I don't respect myself.

I have read loads of post from jallen & agold/terp06, and its really benefitted me.

I personally feel mods should not ban mods. It should be left to the likes of Prae, kry, rhyme, river, pelihu to take that decision.

Having said that, I dont know the context. If you can throw that in the open, may be we all or only the mods can "vote", coz not many (i'm guessing), have seen what agold wrote.

The gods have smiled upon me today. Let this be the end of censorship!

I must say that I'm really turned off by this whole incident. Moderators should NOT be allowed to ban other moderators. Censorship should not occur unless it is truly warranted (things like pornography, insults, swearing, etc.)

It's not easy when people can't take a joke and have more "power" than they deserve. Censorship is about as cool as HIV.
