Hi Paul,
I'm applying to business schools this coming year. Do you think it might be easier to get more competitive jobs (i-banking, consulting) at Michigan than it would be at the ultra elite schools? I think fewer students at Michigan go after these jobs as compared to those at ultra elite schools.
Thanks
p,
I'm not sure I agree that Michigan MBA students pursue the IB and MC jobs any less avidly than do students at the ultra elites. According to Business Week data, the percentage of MBAs placed in finance and consulting at Michigan last year was very typical of elite MBA programs: 32% and 29%, respectively. Based on those numbers Michigan students have very typical post-MBA career dreams. If you want a job not only in more competitive industries (IB, MC) but with the more competitive firms, Michigan is a great place to go, but the "elite" firms get more of their MBAs from the ultra elite schools than they do from Michigan.
Hope this helps,
