There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
I have been taking several Kaplan practice tests and just recently also took the GMAT Software free tests. I have seen a large difference in the practice test scores between the two sources. My Kaplan scores are consistent as are the GMAT Software scores but there is a huge difference between the two.
Anyone else experience this? If so, what which is the best measure of my progress?
GMAT Prep is only mock test which will give you a realistic measure of your abilities (closest to actual GMAT). Other mocks (Manhattan, Kaplan, Veritas) etc may be good for practice, but I’d recommend only using GMAT software ones to gauge progress.
I had the same problem with the Kaplan mocks, so I ditched them altogether. I use to consistently score Q 50-51 and V 32-34. However in the G Prep I used to get 47-49 and V 27-32. I felt that, in Kaplan mocks, marking most of the starting 10-20 questions right generally leads to 680-720 score. You can use the mocks for practice but for score estimation stick to the G Prep mocks only!
