Hi guys,
I need to decide between two schools here, which for both the merit is about the same. I managed to receive an offer from both Rotman and Kelley, and Rotman deadline for the deposit is very soon. In terms of the total cost, I believe there should not be much difference.
Here is the dilemma I am facing:
I would say that I will definitely pursue a career in Investment Banking, and Kelley is not known much for Ibanking people. Am I right? Rotman has a curriculum that focuses more on finance and I assume that networking for people in Ibanking should be easier than Kelley? A job market for a role in finance in Canada may be less tense for an international student like me. Besides, I have seen a drop in ranking for Rotman, though it is very hard to decide. I really want to spend my MBA life in Toronto more than Bloomington. If the thing doesn't work out, I will go back to Thailand and Kelley may a little ahead of Rotman in terms of Alumni number.
Background:
Thai, CFA Charterholder, 6 years of work experience (4.5 in IB with Thai Banks)
Btw, I have other several schools awaiting the result as well, but that would be another day problem, not today.

Hi. Congrats on getting into Kelley and Rotman! These are two different programs in two different countries 
There are many considerations about the state of the immigration systems in the US and Canada. I’ve had repeatedly from a number of people that Canadian resident suicide easier to come by an a lot more transparent than the green card in the United States. Which I think is why Rotman and if you other Canadian schools have seen a boost in the applications and also rankings.
The downside of the Canadian MBA is that the job market is much smaller and doesn’t pay as much. Canadian employers often give more weight to work experience, local or branded work experience rather than the MBA degree. Hopefully your investment bank experience in Thailand will ring the bells. So Canada would appear like a less risk option but also a lesser reward option as well.
Investment banking is a topic of its own, and while it’s easier to recruit then 15 years ago, investment banking is a very competitive industry especially when you recruit from schools that are not traditional feeders such as stern or Darden. It’s a relevant whether your program has investment banking classes or curriculum. It will be a tough path though I feel that since Rodman is the top Canadian MBA program, you’ll be a big fish in a little pond and perhaps easier to land a spot esp with experience you have. I’m speculating here and my suggestion would be to ask the admissions committee to get you in touch with a few of the current students who are looking to recruit into investment banking and ask them about the realities of Canadian investment banking. Unfortunately I know very little about it.
I think overall, I’m slightly leaning towards Rotman but let me ping a few of the current Kelly students to see if they would share their thoughts.
