The top schools are particularly good about giving grace on GMAT believe it or not. It's far more important to have an interesting story to tell and a background of demonstrated achievements. Think about it: HBS, Wharton, Stanford etc, are so well established in their reputations, that they literally could not damage it with a marginal dip in an occasional yearly GMAT average. There have been students admitted to these schools with 4-500 on the GMAT. Focus on your story and how you tell it. The 690 clearly demonstrates academic ability, so I would not fret about it one bit.
