Work Ex:
Intel Corporation, 4 years till date. Promoted in 1.5 years to handle highly critical and highly technical customer issues.
Worked with major computer vendors like Apple Dell etc and have solved several of their manufacturing issues thereby leading to savings in the order of millions. Have won several performance awards during my tenure at Intel.
One of the 3 people identified to start a new team of about 20 . Current promotion to team lead to architect validation solutions for one of Intel's revolutionary products due in 2012.
Extra - Curricular:
Passionate about improving the lives of under-privileged kids in India and the US and have consistently worked on it for the past 7 years.Started out as a volunteer for a non-profit for under-privileged kids in 2002.Moved to a different non profit organization in 2005.Started out as a volunteer and was subsequently elected as President of the one of the 15 regional centers of the organization.
Been managing and leading the local chapter which consists of about 25 volunteers. In the last 2 years I have completely turned this chapter around from making $8000 a year to $30000 a year especially during the recessionary year of 2008/2009. I have masterminded and architected several fund raisers that raise more than $10000 annually to support our cause. The money raised supports several projects working towards under-privileged kids in India
Project lead for a project in India called the Door Step School which sets up schools at construction sites to provide non formal education to construction worker kids and ease them into the mainstream schooling system. Served a 2 week stint in Kenya to provide school kids with Classmate PC’s through Intel’s Classmate PC program and also am a active part of this program. Act as a youth mentor to 4 middle school kids every year trying to make them understand the importance of an education in today’s world.Volunteer at a local Foster care home for abandoned and abused kids to ease their trauma and bring them back to a normal existence.Through my employer volunteer grant matching program, I raise about $3000 every year for the above organizations through my individual efforts
POST MBA-Plans:
My stint in Kenya made me realize that I can combine my passion for technology and non-profit .Technology In Emerging markets would help me serve both my passions. That’s the field I see myself after my MBA. I am also really passionate about my non-profit and I want to widen the scope of our organization to support more than 1,000,000 kids and raise $10,000,000 every year over the next 8-10 years. An MBA would go a long way in helping me achieve that goal.
Questions:
1. I am planning to apply only after 2 years, so I can work on strengthening my profile further. How much of a chance do I stand at top schools like Wharton, Kellogg, MIT, Stanford, Chicago etc? Stanford would be my dream school. Do I have a realistic shot at any of the top 8 schools
2. Will my GMAT score stand out as a weakness in my application? Would I stand a better chance at any of the schools above if I improved my GMAT by 40-50 points? Or would the time be better spent on strengthening my application.

To answer your questions:
1) Given your age and level of full-time work experience, I actually think you should consider applying sooner rather than later. Just this week I spoke with an applicant who said, "I kept waiting to apply to business school, because everyone kept telling me to get another year or two of experience before applying, and now I learn that schools are trending younger and that I'm too old." This is mainly just a handful of the top schools right now, but you don't know when the other top-ten schools will decide to go the same way. You have enough experience now that I think you should consider applying this fall. Anyway, assuming that you can passionately and believably communicate your desire to help others (i.e., not making it sound like something you're just saying to get into b-school), then I think you have enough of a shot that it's worth applying to a top-five school, but you should also consider a few lower-ranked schools, just to improve your overall chances.
2) I don't think that raising your GMAT score will help you much, UNLESS you can significantly improve your verbal score. If you don't think you can, then you should probably just focus on the rest of your application.

Thanks for your reply. Due to family and visa constraints I wont be able to apply for schools right way. These factors arent under my control and I hope to apply in about 2 years time.
Since I have about 2 years time, what are things I can probably do to increase my chances at a top 5 school. Based on my technology and non-profit goals what schools do you think would be a good fit for me and what schools would I have a realistic shot at and what school would be my stretches
