Hi,

I am deciding amongst test prep courses and will like to know the following about Knewton:

1. How is the company able to provide 50 point money back guarantee and still be profitable? Is this a marketing strategy to get more people to sign up for their course? I am just curious as to how it works?

2. How good are they if somebody is interested in raising their verbal score? I score in the high 40s in Quant. However, verbal is what I need to work a lot on (always score in low-mid 30s, 31-34)

3. What kind of materials do they have for verbal and quant? What is any extra material like? How are the 700-800 level Quant questions - are they really hard?

4. Who are the really good Knewton instructors?

I really appreciate any feedback on the above questions.

Thanks,
~Alex

Another question I have is how good is Knewton for people lik who have scored a 650+. I am aware that the 50 point money back guarantee is great in that respect. But more importantly, does the course material help people to reach 700+ levels? I have heard that Knewton is more for people scoring in 500-early 600s. But to cross 680 it is not that great.

Any advise is appreciated.

So as to not clutter this space feel free to pm me questions about the Knewton prep course. I am currently enrolled in the course and I have not had any complaints. I am roughly at the same GMAT level as you are and I feel that I have improved. I don't think one really goes from 600-700 by practicing with harder questions. The goal is to learn the strategies and fundamentals to not get the ones below a 700 incorrect. Yes, you need to get the harder ones correct but if you are not getting the ones below a 700 correct then you will never get the harder questions.

The majority people who take the course are going to be below 700. I figure most people who are 700+ are not going to take a course to improve their gmat. As mentioned earlier, a 50 point improvement is easy if one really understands the fundamentals and the strategies needed on the GMAT. A 50pt improvement is probably equivalent to, and I'm just guessing here, an additional 3-4 questions correct on each section. The problem is most people, such as myself, get into bad habits and repeat the same error over and over again.

Hi, Alex,

I will try to answer your questions below.

1. How is the company able to provide 50 point money back guarantee and still be profitable? Is this a marketing strategy to get more people to sign up for their course? I am just curious as to how it works?

The guarantee is legit. And a remarkably tiny percentage of people ask for their money back. We are very confident in our technology and our teachers.

2. How good are they if somebody is interested in raising their verbal score? I score in the high 40s in Quant. However, verbal is what I need to work a lot on (always score in low-mid 30s, 31-34)

The Verbal part of our course is quite strong. Plus you can always watch the lessons on demand to reinforce.

3. What kind of materials do they have for verbal and quant? What is any extra material like? How are the 700-800 level Quant questions - are they really hard?

We have practice questions, pre-tests, re-tests, etc. We know students like difficult math questions, so we work hard to develop them.

4. Who are the really good Knewton instructors?

All of our teachers are engaging 99th percentile scorers. Students seem to really like David, Evan, and Rich.

I am pretty interested in this. Not quite ready to make the leap. It looks like a pretty good program.
