Last week Linda and Nancy each worked 40 regular hours at the same hourly rate of pay and some overtime hours at $30 per hour. How many more overtime hours did Linda work last week than Nancy did?

The information is that both surely worked entire regular 40 hours and some extra hours @30$ per hour.

(1) Last week, the total number of hours that Nancy worked was 20 percent greater than the number of regular hours that she worked.
Just talks of Nancy. She worked 20% of 40 or 8 hours @$30 per hour
Insufficient

(2) Last week, Linda's total pay was $150 more than Nancy's total pay.
We know that both have worked for complete regular hours. So, the entire of $150 is earned in extra hours.
Excess of extra hours worked is \(\frac{150}{30}\) or 5hours.
Sufficient

B
HEY,
I thought we are going to count 40hrs pay in the total of 150 dollars.*
As per your answer, the total pay given in the qs is actually the total ovetime pay given to Linda/Nancy.
:(

We are given that Linda and Nancy each worked 40 regular hours at the same hourly rate of pay, so for these 40 regular hours both were paid the same amount. Thus, the difference of $150 must have come from the overtime, which is paid at $30 per hour. Therefore, Linda worked $150/30 = 5 hours more than Nancy.

(1) Last week, the total number of hours that Nancy worked was 20 percent greater than the number of regular hours that she worked.
(2) Last week, Linda's total pay was $150 more than Nancy's total pay.

Question: Overtime hours of Linda - Overtime hours of Nancy = ?

Statement 1: N = 1.2*L
i.e. If L worked for 50 hours then N worked 60 hours and
If L worked for 60 hours then N worked 72 hours
Inconsistency hence
NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: Last week, Linda's total pay was $150 more than Nancy's total pay.
Difference of pay comes only due to difference of hours
since $150 extra was paid to nancy @$30 per hour hence
N worked 5 extra overtime hours than Nancy hence
SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option B
