mshrek,
Focusing only on the potential impact to you odds of B-school admission, I would not leave your job until after your applications have been submitted. If you leave beforehand, you risk alienating your recommenders, will give yourself little time to establish a record of success in your startup, and risk having adcoms perceive you as "taking a step back" professionally. That is, purely from an admissions standpoint, leaving before your application is submitted is likely to raise question marks that hurt your chances.

Hi All,
I'm in a dilemma for past few months. I am an Indian/male/28/IT guy , and I did my under graduation from an IIT. Currently, I am in a financially well settled job. I have given 2 GMAT attempts and my scores were : 650(51/26) and 690(50,32). For past few years I've been fascinated by an idea of a founding a startup company and finally I've been able to take the first step. Now my problems are :
)I am seriously considering doing an MBA outside India and have to retake GMAT again to better my scores. My target score is 750+. But I'm not able to manage time well along with my professional responsibilities.
2) I am not satisfied with my job profile and seriously want to make a change in techno-entrepreneurship, strategy-marketing,investing. But the problem I feel is that I do not have sufficient skills for these domains and I fear that my MBA applications might be seriously hampered because of this.
3)I want to leave my job and work on my startup, if it kicks in well. Here I don't have my family support as they think I'm already doing well professionally(income wise) and I've gone nuts to take a plunge in startups or a field where my income is quite questionble.
I want to continue with my work on my startup even when I am doing my mba as I'm quite passionate about it but considering my age and other factors I feel that this is the right time to do an MBA.
Should I wait till I've applied for colleges in round 1 or can I quit before applying to the colleges ? Will leaving my company do any harm once I've submitted my b-school applications. Will my recommendations be taken less lightly If I chose to leave my firm prior to mba applications? I really want to quit my job as I'm not satisfied with it at all and need some personal time to spend as well.
Please suggest how should I tackle these thoughts before the first round of MBA applications begin
