please evaluate my profile
work ex will be 2yr in may 2007 (wishing to apply in fall 2007) at accenture idc
gpa 2.7 engg graduate
yet to write gmat
1. what gmat score will help me get into the top schools in view of my profile?
2. is there anything else i can do to boost my profile except for gathering more work ex cos i have to definitely apply for fall 2007
3. what schools can i aim for please give me a comprehensive list

one thing more i want to finally work for consulting or marketing so please help me choose a list of schools accordingly

Gaurava,

I think you should aim for a 720 minimum for the top schools given your undergrad GPA and the fact that you are, I assume, an Indian IT consultant, a profile they see a lot of. You will need to do whatever you can to stand out. Leadership stories are important, but so are intensive community involvements (showing leadership, if possible), and even unusual hobbies and personal experiences.

In terms of choosing where to apply, based on the information you gave me the following schools are generally considered to be the "best" (ranking wise) for consulting and for marketing:

Management or Management Consulting:
--Harvard
--Kellogg
--Tuck
--Wharton
--Michigan

Marketing:
--Kellogg
--Michigan
--Harvard
--Duke
--Wharton

thanx a lot. even with a score of around 720 do u thnk that the list u have gven will consider my profile or should i consider colleges outside the two lists u proposed if so which ones.(n both consulting and markettng) as i see on the forum guys with 5yr work ex and 720 gmat and better gpa not making to the big shots.i am to a certain degree horrified about my chances after seeing such profiles gettng rejected
i defnitely will try to incorporate all the points u mentioned.

Yes, I recommend that you target schools lower on the list. For management or management consulting consider UNC, CMU, Cornell, Texas, and Yale. For marketing consider UNC, Indiana, Texas, and Florida (Warrington).
