I am a bit worried about embarrassing myself with questions I get wrong, but I am confident I can work out what I do get wrong, and will hopefully learn from it!
Hi Vubar,

That's the right way to look at it. Mistakes are an important (and natural) part of the learning process.

I personally focused on the silly mistakes in the last three weeks of my prep or maybe last month. I identified that is the area of the most improvement they could make in the area where I consistently made mistakes.

Silly mistakes it’s not some thing that just goes away. It should be something you purposefully focus in target. I would recommend pig attention and keeping track of why you made them or in what cases you made them. That could be helpful on how to address them and how to avoid making them in the future and how to remediate.

This is some thing I saved for last and in my case I’ve made a number of changes to how I took the test. For example, I would take a five second break between every current question because I realize that often I carried over information from one question to the next and I got a soup in my head that caused me to make mistakes especially due to sufficiency. Also, I tried to do a quick check and make sure that the answer made logical sense. I have managed to improve my results but I know I was far from perfect. On my real GMAT, on two separate Quan questions, I came up with the answer that wasn’t in the list of options. That happened to me twice. Frankly, I was thankful but at the same time annoyed and scared that I so easily made mistakes. Those were not hard questions either.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that silly mistakes are not so easy to battle. But you can address them and you can make changes that will reduce them.

Very cool idea! Good luck with studies!

PS. I think no shame in making a mistake. 😉 Even if everyone is watching. If anything adds some pressure like the real test would.

Thank you and great point! Hopefully it will force me to work even harder to avoid the 'silly' mistakes, and not rush the method!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to send a quick update. I've made a Discord server for my study group. Now that a few people have started joining, I wanted to have one place where I could update my schedule and notify when I'm going live. So if anyone wants to join our study sessions, the best place to connect with our study group/community is here: https://discord.gg/geqj4RRh4K

I hope to see some of you there at the next session!

Hello again! The group sessions where we work through questions together and discuss the logic have been great, but it's hard (and tiring!) to have them for more than a few hours. So I've started having co-working sessions.

I'm using the Pomodoro technique, where we study with a timer. 50 minutes of focus, and a 10-minute break. During the breaks, I'm still happy to chat about questions/doubts etc. or whatever you want to talk about! But then we all go back to whatever we need to focus on during the focus timer.

If you're struggling to get motivated, and want to study with some other people studying for the GMAT, come join us! Even if you're working on something else, but want a prompt to get to study afterwards, do your work with us!

The next co-working session details are here:

Hey everyone, FYI, I edited my opening post to be up-to-date with my current schedule, and what we've actually been doing. I'll copy it again here:

Hi everyone, to help motivate myself to study consistently, I have been Livestreaming some study sessions so that I am committing to the world that I will study! I do it at https://www.twitch.tv/vubar_gmat. We've started forming a study community out of it. If you're interested in joining, you can join us in Discord at: https://discord.gg/YKgYjjXB7b (make sure you choose "GMAT'ter" in the sorting hat poll).

People have been joining and getting a lot out of it. We normally go through questions together (with the timer), I'll go through my logic quickly first, and then we discuss any key elements and takeaways of the question. We don't do A LOT of questions; we do a handful, but really dive into understanding them. In my opinion, that is more valuable than answering 40 questions in an hour and learning nothing from them.

We can also do other things (for example, for part of one session, we spent time walking through analysing RC passages, discussing how to approach a passage, and then answering some questions after that).

Full disclosure/context:
- I am not an expert, I am just studying to take the exam as well. I am a bit worried about embarrassing myself with questions I get wrong, but I am confident I can work out what I do get wrong, and will hopefully learn from it!
- I scored Q42/V42 on my diagnostic official practice. I am still working on my theory building (currently in 2 courses), especially in quant. I hope to get through it quickly though, and be focused on practice soon.

(Sometimes, I might have a friend on stream with me who is NOT studying for the GMAT, and I will be trying to tutor them through the questions. So for the basics, I will be explaining concepts to someone who will effectively be a beginner. I haven't done this on stream yet, but it might be helpful for people starting out, so let me know if you want to see that!)

Current schedule for group GMAT sessions is:
Tuesday 11 am (Australian EST) / 1 am (GMT) / 6.30 am (India) / 9 am (China) / Monday 8 pm (USA ET)
Saturday 3.30pm (Australian EST) / 12pm (GMT) / 11 am (India) / 1.30 pm (China) / 12.30 am (USA ET)

Besides that, I stream almost every day for co-working. That's where we can study our own thing, focus on whatever you want to, but we work with a timer. 50 minutes focusing, 10-minute break. And we can check in with each other on breaks, and ask questions, motivate each other, etc. It's a great way to force ourselves to study because other people in our study group know that we are studying too.

Any thoughts on what would be good to do on stream that would help me and you? Any thoughts on timing that would make it easier to join?

I hope making a little community will help you as much as I hope it will help me!

Hi everyone! I will be having a group study session later today in about 4 hours! I would love if you can join. We will work through some quant and some verbal (as always), and our verbal focus will be Critical Reasoning today. You can find the details (and join our study group) with this discord event!

https://discord.gg/5nBCnJzY?event=934227978697736293

Also, if you want to get a taste for what our sessions look like: while I was procrastinating, I decided to clip the first RC passage that we worked through in an earlier group session from New Year's Eve's Eve's Eve. If anyone is curious, I discuss my method for approaching RC passages (which is still evolving, I had to adjust a bit in our most recent session for example), making an initial summary, and then we go through some questions together.

Next group session, we will try something new. Rather than looking at random questions, we will try to have a doubt clearing session. If you are having trouble with a particular topic, find a question that addresses that issue, share it in our discord channel ahead of the session, and we will go through them together in the group session.

We will go through as many as possible, in the order that people share the questions (1 per person to start with, but if we have time, by all means, we can address more from 1 person).

Hi everyone, just wanted to give a quick update. Since my initial official mock, I've improved my 690 to 750/760, so the study is paying off! I've taken two official mocks in the past week and a half, and scored 750 and 760.

The group has been helping a lot. I've been helping a lot of people with verbal especially, and a few others have been helping me and others with quant, so it's been really good. My Quant went from 42 to 49, in no small part thanks to the help and support from the crew!

If anyone wants to join, please feel free to follow the link in my signature. :)

Hi everyone!

Another update, so the group sessions are on Saturdays now. Here's a link to an event for the one tomorrow! (the time will show up in your local timezone)

https://discord.gg/DrWBbSjy?event=973083659567509594

Tomorrow's session is a little different. It will be a Q&A session with two folks in the group that scored 760+. Hopefully you can join us!
