Given my academic and professional achievements so far, how feasible are my future goals?
GMAT - 680 V: 34 Q: 48 AWA: 6 IR: 5
TOEFL - 111 R: 30 L: 29 S: 28 W: 24
Graduation - BSc IT 60% [15 years of education] This degree is similar to any other Computer Science degree.
Work Ex - Total 4 Years
2 Years at L&T Infotech {Major IT firm in India}
Majority of my job was to handle IT infrastructure for our Danish Client. My team managed storage arrays and fabric switches.
As a daily part of my job, I analysed reports to look for errors and redundancy, worked on client requests, and suggested for improvement in connectivity.
I excelled at all the training, was chosen for 1-on-1 communication with client (very rare in our industry at my level), and was awarded for completing a particular client task
1 Year as a Co-Founder
Co-founded a jewelry startup with my partners.
Planned and organized marketing events to promote products, participated in exhibitions to increase brand visibility and help focus on target customers
1 Year at non-profit
working as a website manager - maintaining website, generating hits, improving donations, etc
Short Term Goal - Enter into consulting
- Consulting excites me due to its dynamic and complex nature
- Majority of my job at L&T was to find patterns and observations from a huge report. Proficiency in two skills were of paramount - excel and quants (apart from tech proficiency of course)
- At startup I was involved in different facets of business. Also, I spent a lot of time talking to successful/failed entrepreneurs, ivy school alumni, and VCs. THis is when I came to know in detail about fields such as PE, VC, AM, Consulting, etc
- At consulting I'll be able to apply my skills to do what I like the best. To find a solution from a huge dataset. I won't be restricted to a particular firm or industry.
Long Term - Start a PE firm in India
- After spending 5-7 years at consulting, I want to setup my own PE firm in my home country
- Currently in India, PE is in its fledgling state and there is a lot of scope as many firms' size are small to medium
- My dad manages our family owned business, which is very common in India. Growing up I have realized many needs of such businesses. I believe my past experience and my experience at consulting would help me built up a successful PE firm
I do not have any background in finance or accounting. I just think a good MBA coupled with a great stint at consulting would help me achieve my goals.
I want to know how feasible do my goals sound. Are they achievable? Should I change my goals just because they sound far from possible? Or do my goals need some sort of restructuring?
