Hi guys,

I recently appeared for the gmat and was devastated with my score. I got a low score of 570. My question- I have a low undergrad gpa (53%) from a prestigious institution (St. Stephens College, Delhi University). I applied for the master of science in management studies at Notre Dame. What are my chances ?

I'm focused on MBA programs so I don't really know what the competitiveness is for that particular program, but what I do know is that if you have awful grades you need to have a freaking awesome GMAT score. So that you can Inspire confidence in them that you can do the work and you will not be lagging. I think that your best move would be to increase GMAT score and also establish a secondary transcript of some kind... if you are in South Bend try to do that at Notre Dame or some other reputable College. If you're in a jam and you really have to do this online than HBX core is a good option. I think it would make sense for you to contact the admissions office for this program and any others you apply to to inquire if they have any cut offs with regards to the GPA. might or might not be honest with you about it but it might be worth it to gauge their reaction.

kapilmukhi,
For getting into Stephens, you must have had a "beyond awesome" score in your 12th. How is it that your GMAT is so low?

Please take my comment to your heart, and work hard. If you want it to hear from someone else, here it is. WORK HARD, and get a GMAT that justifies your pedigree. Other than that there is no redemption for you...

No point messaging asking for false hopes.

Hi Kapil,

I agree with IveyLeagueEdge that you have more mettle in you, with regards to a GMAT score, if you got into Stephens. Which subject did you study there? Whichever it is, I'd expect the adcoms would expect atleast a first class, so yes, your GPA is not competitive.

if you are planning to apply further, you should reatke GMAT and aim for a higher score- think of a 700plus.

Hi kapilmukhi,

As a thumb rule, a high GMAT score helps offset a low GPA and we strongly recommend that you retake the GMAT! :) A 570 is very low and we are sure you are capable of doing much better!

All the best!
